RICHLAND REFLECTIONS
Week of 9/28/20 at Richland Elementary School
Reminder that there is no school on Monday, in person or virtually.
Thank you for all of the positive comments I have received from families about our amazing teachers and staff. I practice gratitude regularly and am grateful for our one of a kind Richland staff, our supportive students and families, and the fantastic weather we've had for the first two weeks of school!
As you know, last Thursday night, the school board voted to return to in person school for 5 days a week beginning October 12. Please note at this time, physical school hours will remain 9:00-2:00 Monday through Friday. Full virtual instruction will still remain an option. Any students receiving 2 or 4 days of instruction currently will automatically move to 5 days of instruction, unless parents would like to change to full virtual. Any students currently receiving full virtual will remain, unless parents would like to change to 5 days of in person instruction. Please contact me at nzuerblis@qcsd.org if you would like to change your child's learning environment beginning on October 12. There is no need to contact me if your child is hybrid and you would like to move to 5 days of in person instruction. That will automatically occur.
To aid in our planning, please make every effort to email me with requests to change from live to virtual or virtual to live by October 5. Our parent Back to School Night scheduled for Wednesday is postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.
Thank you again for your support!

VIRTUAL BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT POSTPONED: DATE TBD
FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR ALL QCSD STUDENTS
The free food program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The United States Department of Agriculture has extended a nationwide waiver to allow the Quakertown Community School District to provide FREE meals to ALL students regardless of need through December 2020, or until available federal funding runs out. No qualification or identification is needed.
In QCSD, all students are eligible to receive FREE breakfast and FREE lunch beginning Wednesday, September 23.
Breakfast will be served at Richland in our lunch room from 8:45-9:00.
Lunch is cold service, with three selections daily: A sandwich or wrap, a salad with a protein and roll, or a Grape/Peanut Butter Uncrustable. An assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables along with milk will be available daily. Students will order their lunches in the morning and will eat lunch in their classrooms. Lunches will be assembled by the cafeteria staff in bags, with aides delivering to rooms at the scheduled lunch times.
For Virtual Learners, bagged breakfasts and lunches will be available for pick-up Monday through Friday at Quakertown Community High School from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The food distribution location is the High School bus loop. On Wednesdays, this service is available to all Quakertown students.
LIVE AND VIRTUAL DAILY ATTENDANCE
Every day Monday through Friday is a school day.
Please keep your child home if they show any symptoms and call to let us know. You will receive a follow up call from our school nurse. We will confirm if your child will become a virtual learner for a period of time so they are not marked absent from in person instruction while staying home with symptoms.
FOR HYBRID STUDENTS' IN PERSON LEARNING:
On days when students are in person, attendance will be taken as in the past, and students will be marked absent if they are not physically present.
FOR HYBRID STUDENTS' VIRTUAL LEARNING OR 100% VIRTUAL STUDENTS:
Attendance will be taken daily. When learning virtuallty, all students are to complete their "check-in" activity as explained by their teachers by 2:00 daily. To allow for the completion of work asynchronously, students may complete other school activities after 2:00, but the check-in must be completed by 2:00 in order to be marked as present.
IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT:
You will receive an email At 3:00 on the day your child is marked absent. The school must receive an excuse from you within 3 days of the absence.
New this year, you may respond to the email with your absence reason. If you prefer, you may send in an absence note to the office. All excuses must be received within 3 days of the absence.
FROM MRS. STAUFFER, OUR SCHOOL NURSE
The first two weeks of school have come to an end, and all of the students are doing a great job at wearing their face coverings and maintaining their distance! Thank you for preparing them for these expectations at school to help keep our students and staff safe.
Thank you to those who have filled out the Annual Health Update Form or updated their child’s health record and medication permission in the SNAP Health Portal. For those of you that have not yet completed this task, it’s a quick and easy way to let me know what is happening with your child’s health. You can also choose to give me permission to give your child specific medications, such as Tylenol or sting relief (if they were to be stung by a bee). Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions, concerns or difficulty completing one of the health updates.
PICTURE DAY 10/6 and 10/8
