NATIONAL 4-H WEEK
South Dakota 4-H Beliefs Statement
For children and youth, we believe that 4-H:
· * Advances the acquisition of positive life skills through experiential learning.
· * Contributes to the development of critical communication skills, including the ability to interact with others, to speak and write with clarity, and to utilize technology with competence.
· * Empowers youth to be independent thinkers who are developing their critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
· * Encourages youth to become good citizens through leadership development, volunteerism, and community service.
· * Promotes the involvement of youth in community building and equal partnerships of youth working closely with adults.

Sunday: Stick up a sign Sunday – Post a 4-H sign in your yard or window.
Monday: Member Monday – Showcase that you are a 4-H Family! Add a 4-H profile frame.
Tuesday: T-Shirt Tuesday – Wear a 4-H Shirt
Wednesday: Wear Green Wednesday – Wear your 4-H or green gear.
Thursday: Thankful Thursday – Take Refreshments to a business/school that supports Brown County 4-H or Tell a 4-H Volunteer Thank you!
Friday: Favorite Friday – Showcase your favorite 4-H project. Wear your favorite 4-H memorabilia.
Saturday: Story Saturday – Share your 4-H story with others.

NEW MEMBERS
The Brown County 4-H Office will have a new member packet, including: n this packet, you will find several items, including:
· Enrollment Instruction Guide. This guide will help you get your youth enrolled through our online enrollment program. It is a step-by-step guide; however, if you have troubles contact the 4-H office.
· Brown County 4-H Brochure. The brochure gives you a synopsis of the endless opportunities we offer youth and their families. It will have a list of all our 4-H Clubs on there, look and let me know if you have any questions.
· Brown County 4-H’s Newsletters come via email; we use smore.com. There are weekly and monthly content that comes from our office.
· Brown County 4-H Projects at a glance. It is a PDF with all our project areas listed as well as projects ideas to complete in those areas.
They will also receive a record book cover. Please have your new members come to the office, we would love the chance to talk with them and answer any questions they may have.

Gyspy Day Parade 2023
Brown County 4-H is a part of the Gypsy Day parade on October 7th in Aberdeen. Brown County has one entry in the parade. To participate, please contact one of the clubs listed below that are coordinating this event.
Clubs coordinating include Dream Reachers, Friendly Fellows and Daisies, Livestock Leaders, Putney Putovers, Rural Lads and Lassies, and Three River Ranchers
This year’s theme is “Wolves Go to Vegas”. Thank you for representing Brown County 4-H!

RECORD BOOK JUDGING
Record books and club secretary books will be judged by paid individuals again this year. Top record books in each age division (beginner, junior and senior) and top club secretary books will be recognized at the November 5, 2023, 4-H Recognition Event.

4-H RECOGNITION EVENT
Plans in the works for the 2023 Brown County 4-H Recognition Event.
The date of our event is November 5 at 2 pm in the Brown County Courthouse Basement.

BROWN COUNTY 4-H CONCESSION STAND
A huge Thank You to all the Clubs who helped with the concession stand at the Brown County Fair. This project would not be a success without your Club donations and volunteers to work in the stand. Brenda Artz

TROPHIES
If you or your club received one of the traveling trophies presented at last year’s Recognition Event, please retrieve, and return it to the 4-H Office ASAP. It will need to be updated and presented to this year’s recipient.

GRADUATION CORDS
Are you graduating in the spring and looking for something to show your 4-H participation? The Brown County 4-H Office will have graduation cords for you! You will receive the cords upon request only, please contact the Brown County 4-H Office (605-626-7120) to submit a request. The deadline for requests is May 1, 2024, of the current graduation year.
