Principal's News
Last week I spent some time in Melbourne for a Lutheran Schools Principal's Meeting and our annual Schools Assembly. It is a funny name, 'Schools Assembly', but is the annual meeting of our District Office, attended by all Principal's and Board Chairs. These two days were an opportunity to gain additional information about the new child safety standards, enterprise bargaining in the education sector, reconciliation in schools and student learning focusses, among many other things.
I was also able to attend a number of Early Learning Centre's (ELC's), investigating the implications on independent schools of the recently announced Victorian Governments changes to kindergarten.
I am very thankful for the Lutheran Schools, Colleges and ELC's of our District. The collegiality of all and willingness to collaboratively work together is something that I haven't always found in the various districts that I have worked within over the years.
As Jesus welcomed His flock, our District welcomes their flock. We all belong, each schools uniqueness, valued and strengths celebrated. I am grateful for our leaders, our District leaders but more importantly, our leader, Jesus. Who knows and called each staff member in our schools to serve our children and share His love with the children in our care.
What a privilege it is to serve our community each and every day. May God bless you this week and always.

Maisie is 6 months old!
Maisie is now 6 months old. She is enjoying coming to school and beginning to explore and meet more students in our primary and secondary classes. They’ve been doing a great job at helping Maisie relax and feel part of the school community. As you can see she loves to be outside at break times as well as snuggling in the Wellbeing room for some downtime.

School TV - Friendship & Belonging
Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.
Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendship are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to support their young person’s friendship so that they experience a sense of belonging.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
