Daoism is also known as Taoism. It is a religion. Daoism started in 100 AD. It grew from 200-700 AD where more rituals and practices grew. Laozi was the person who founded Daoism in the 500s BC and was the most famous Daoist teacher that taught people that they shouldn't seek wealth or power. Daoism has shaped Chinese for more than 2000 years. Daoism is characterized by positive, active attitude, toward the occult.
Their beliefs changed a lot. In the 2nd Century they focused on meditation. In the 5th Century they focused on reincarnation and cosmology. In the 6th Century they focused on rituals. They don't believe in suffering. They believe that life should generally be happy and should be live with balance and virtue.
Confliscts with Buddhism
Daoism had competition with Buddhism because during this time Buddhism spread into China via traders and missionaries from India.
