Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
February 26th-March 2nd
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week students will be learning about the different phases of the moon. They will be given a moon phase calendar to fill out during the month of March for an extra credit opportunity. A final lesson 5 (moon) quiz will be on Friday, March 9th.
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week students will review their Government notes and information. Our unit test will be this Friday, March 2nd before the field trip. Students were given a study guide last week. Page 1 is due tomorrow. Page 2 is due Wednesday.
- Mrs. Thurston's Math/ELA: This week we are taking a break from our next big unit and continuing with our novel studies while discussing author’s purpose! The kids had SO much fun writing their conglomerates and sharing them today! Before starting our next unit, we are going to be taking a break and learning about Text Dependent Analysis (TDA) to get them prepared for testing! Spelling will return this week! New words will be given Tuesday. In math we will continue our measurement unit. We will continue learning about customary weight with a quiz on Tuesday. We will then learn about customary capacity.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: This week we will start a unit on mythology, focusing mainly on Greek mythology. Students will be reading different myths and learning about famous mythological characters. On Wednesday they will participate in their weekly Socratic Seminar. Last week was our first week incorporating these into our ELA block, and the students did fantastic! I'm really excited about the depth of discussion they will be getting into each week during their seminars. In writing, we are going to take a week off from TDA and focus on grammar and how to apply it to a written passage. In math, we are continuing measurement. This week students will learn about weight/mass in customary and metric. They will have a quiz next Monday over both customary and metric weight.

CALLING ALL PARENT READERS! :)
Friday, March 9th is our last day of "Read Across America" week. This will be a day for mystery readers to come in any time throughout the day and read a short book to the kids. I am looking for parents or grandparents who would be interested in coming in for 10 minutes or so sometime thoughout the day Friday to read. I can provide a book or you are welcome to bring your favorite book with you. It will be a surprise, so please do not tell your children. I am hoping to have 5-6 parents "drop in" throughout the day to be our mystery readers. Please let me know if you are interested and what time would work best for you. Thanks!
