Video about How to Pray

New & Noteworthy

Grade 6 Language Arts

Even though we were short on class time every day due to Terra Nova testing, the students made great strides in their Greek mythology projects. This week's main focus was on drafting and practicing their original god/goddess monologues. Students have been including some strong voice and subtle humor. Get ready for the drama! They also finalized their bibliographies (or will do so early next week) and got their VoiceThread images ready for voice-overs, which they will do with Miss Lawrence early next week.

Grade 7 Religion

Seventh grade has been praying hard this week. Early in the week, students listened to a short story by Patricia Polacco (Chicken Sunday) and then entered into a guided meditation, when they spoke to Jesus from their hearts. They also had a chance to read through many rote/"famous" Catholic prayers (e.g. Hail Mary, Memorare, Angel of God, etc.) from which they picked one to illustrate and meditate on.

Both seventh grade classes attended Stations of the Cross this week. The reflections were based on "The Way of the Cross" (Jerusalem), so Miss Foyle added her own insight to each station along the way (see pictures below from her Holy Land trip last summer).

Grade 8 Religion

A lot has been happening this week for 8th grade in light of their Confirmation this Friday evening. While their schoolmates were taking Terra Novas on Monday, they visited with Fr. Larry and celebrated Reconciliation. Then, on Wednesday, they represented ICSJ at daily Mass at St. Joseph's, and Fr. Larry spoke with them afterwards about the preparation they've been doing (e.g. service hours, Saints, etc.) to get ready for Confirmation.

During their normally scheduled class time, students have started exploring Acts of the Apostles - this is great timing, as the Book of Acts shows the mission of Jesus' disciples after they are filled with the Holy Spirit!
