Learning Standards
This week we will have an assessment over the Phonics we have learned so far. We have learned all the letter names and how to write them. We have been working on listening for beginning, middle, and ending sounds and rhyming. The poem for the week will be about Colors. In reading groups we will work on guided reading, matching uppercase and lowercase letters, writing letters that we know, and technology time. We will continue our writing unit. Students will work on representing numbers, counting and writing numerals in math. We will work with ten frames. In science, we will continue unit 1 which is all about sorting and attributes. We will focus on textures and what matter an object is made of. In social studies, we will continue our unit on Citizenship by reading Chrysanthemum and learning about rules and being a super citizen. Kindergarten is busy and so much fun!
Poetry Journals
Some classes started their poetry journals this week. Students read the poem and circled sight words and or vowels and illustrated the friendship poem. We will do this most Fridays. Some classes sent the poetry journal home. Please go over it with your child and have him or her explain their illustration and what they did to the poem. The picture should match the words and the words should match the picture. Please date and initial the poetry journal and send it back in on Mondays.
Poetry Competition
We are getting ready for our school wide poetry recitation competition. Our class will have a Recitation Contest on Monday, October 14th. We would like all students to participate in the recitation contest. Please find a poem for your child to memorize and practice this poem each night with your child. A copy of the poem must be turned into me by Friday, September 13th. I will choose a winner from our class to represent us in the school-wide competition. Only published poems may be used for the competition. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Red Folders
Daily communication is essential in kindergarten. Please check your child's red folder daily. Please initial the behavior sheet everyday. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or write a note to your teacher.
Fundraiser-Have you donated?
You should have received a paper home regarding the fundraiser at DES. Dutchtown is doing something different this year and asking for donations instead of another kind of fundraiser. Please donate what you can and ask your friends and family to donate as well. All donations are tax deductible. Please let your teacher know if you need another fundraiser paper.
Sickness and Such
It is that time of year where students have scratchy throats, sneezing, and not feeling well. Please know that the protocol for Dutchtown Elementary is that if your child is running a fever, they must be fever free for 24 hours without medication and symptom free in order to come back to school. If you have any questions about this, you can speak to the clinic aide. We want to keep all germs away if possible in kindergarten!
Picture Day is coming-THIS WEDNESDAY
Please save the date for Fall pictures. Every student will take a picture and this picture will be featured in the yearbook. Picture Day is Wednesday, August 28th.
