Welcome to West Hartford Public Schools Kindergarten - this is an exciting time for you and your child! Here you will find all the forms you will need and instructions on how to successfully enroll your child for the 2022-2023 school year. There are some items you will need to do now; and some that you can take care of later. This page can be translated into many languages; you can find your home language in the black box to the right of this message.

Parent/Caregiver Evenings for Incoming Kindergarteners

Look for your school below, please check to see if the parent/caregiver meeting for your incoming kindergartner will be virtual or in person, this may vary depending on COVID guidelines this spring. Either virtual or in person, during these meetings you will meet the school principal and kindergarten teachers. Bring any questions you may have. We look forward to meeting you!

Duffy Elementary: March 31, 2022 5:45 p.m.

Norfeldt Elementary: April 7, 2022 6:30 p.m.

Smith STEM School: April 28, 2022 6:30 p.m.

Webster Hill Elementary: March 31, 2022 6:30 p.m.

Whiting Lane Elementary: March 31, 2022 6:30 p.m.

Wolcott Elementary: April 5, 2022 6:00 p.m.

What You Need To Do Now

1. Call Your Neighborhood School and Let Them Know You are Coming!

Please call your neighborhood school to let them know your child will be attending in the fall of 2022.

Attend the evening parent/caregiver orientation evening for your neighborhood school. Find the time and date here.

2. Your most important job is to establish residency

Kindergarten registration will be online. Check here for your school's registration week.

This is a list of documents you will need to register in English and Espanol.

If you are currently enrolled in a WHPS Pre-K you do not have to register again. (attending Pre-K at Aiken, Charter Oak, Smith, Webster Hill or Whiting Lane)

3. Health Forms

All Kindergarten students must have a State of CT Health Record form on file with the school nurse before the first day of school.

It is a requirement to have a State of CT Health Record Form (including immunizations) on file with the school nurse. Please provide your most recent completed form to your school office by August 15, 2022. If you do not have one, please ask your pediatrician to complete one.

4. Parent/Caregiver Questionnaire for Students Entering Kindergarten

Please take a moment to complete this questionnaire. The information you provide will help us know more about your child as we prepare for them to join our Kindergarten classrooms. We are very excited for your child to join us in the fall!

5. Permission to Communicate with Your Child's Preschool/Childcare Provider Waiver

Each year we ask parents to provide us permission to communicate with your child's early childhood educators. The important information they share supports our efforts in making the best decisions possible for your child as they start their journey with West Hartford Public Schools. Please complete and sign this form or request it from your current school/childcare program. You may complete it here.

6. Before and After School Care (if needed)

Each elementary school has a licensed program that provides before and after care for students in K-5th grade. To learn more about rates and hours please contact programs directly.

  1. Call your school to let them know your kindergarten is coming this fall!
    Attend Kindergarten Orientation Evening
  2. Complete all three steps of online registration
  3. Send updated physical to the school nurse by August 15th
    Complete the Health Signature Page
  4. Complete the Parent/Caregiver Questionnaire for Students Entering Kindergarten
  5. Sign the waiver allowing Kindergarten and Preschool teachers to communicate
  6. Enroll in before/after school care program if needed.

What You Can Do Later

Bus Transportation

If you live more than one mile from the school your child will attend in the fall you will be eligible for bus transportation. Questions about transportation?


A practice bus ride will be available for incoming kindergarten students on Monday, August 8, 2022. Practice rides will take place at your elementary school at 9:00 a.m. More information

School Meals

Both breakfast and lunch can be purchased at school. The Nutrition Services Department web page provides all the information you will need to know including prices, payment options and healthy eating tips. It also provides an online payment system called Paypams.

We encourage families to apply early for free & reduced priced lunch. If you qualify for free or reduced price lunch, breakfast is free.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:35 a.m.- 3:20 p.m.

Wednesday 8:35 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
