WBMS Friday Notes
April 23-27
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Happy Friday! All EOG Milestone testing wrapped up successfully, and we have moved on to EOC Milestone testing, which has gone well so far and will conclude next Thursday. Yay!
Currently, we are focusing on finishing the school year strong and gearing up for end of the year events - Fine Arts Concerts, Webb Way Heroes 2018 (formally Jag Jam but with changes based on student responses), 8th grade Dance, and our new 8th Grade Evening Celebration to honor all our students moving on to high school next year. Throughout the year, we have listened and responded to feedback and made tweaks along the way.Thank you to the principal’s council who gave us advice regarding selecting connections classes and to our Data Clerk and Master Scheduler who are willing to make the request a reality. Next Thursday in Advisory our 7th graders (rising 8th graders) will be given an opportunity to become the first class at WBMS to select their connections classes. We ask that they think about the classes they have experienced in the past and where their passions for learning reside. We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s first or second choices; but please know it may not be completely possible. We are committed to working together to create a school where all stakeholders have a voice and feel empowered to improve our school. With that goal, I feel certain WBMS will continue to grow and improve beyond the greatness it has already achieved. Enjoy the last weekend of April!
In collaboration,
Rebecca Williams Perkins

Relay for Life- May 12th
Join our team and help support our Relay
In preparation for this year’s Relay for Life event on May 12th at WBMS, the school’s FBLA chapter is conducting a community service project. Members of the organization will be preparing luminaria bags to be displayed during the May 12th Relay for Life. To place an order for a luminaria, download the order form (see below). You can either mail it to the address below, or have your student bring it to school and give it to Dr. Oravetz in Room 120.
Luminaria bags are $10 each. Checks are to be made payable to the American Cancer Society. We hope you will take the opportunity to dedicate a bag to someone you know who has loss their battle with cancer, or to honor someone still fighting or has beaten the disease, or acknowledge and thank one of the many caregivers to cancer patients. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Oravetz at oravetz@fultonschools.org.

Keeping Our Children Safe: Parenting Class
As parents, we want nothing more than to protect our children. So just thinking about child sexual abuse can be scary. However, this type of abuse is very common in our communities.
Parents, you are invited to an informative class in English (with interpreters in Spanish, Korean and Chinese) that will provide you with new knowledge and tools to protect your children! The Stewards of Children program will teach you how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
Through a DVD presentation, you will hear from survivors of abuse and professionals, all sharing practical guidance for protecting your children. Each participant will receive a workbook (your personal prevention plan) and participate in a group discussion.
