National Junior Honor Society Phone-A-Thon

On February 11th the National Junior Honor Society held their annual Phone-a-Thon to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Oceanside Middle School alumnus Kelly Backus was invited to speak as she has been living with Cystic Fibrosis for some time. She is a truly inspirational speaker as she is a collegiate athlete studying to become a Health and Physical Education teacher. The NJHS raised over $1,000 to benefit the organization! It was a very successful and meaningful event.

National Drug Fact Week

National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week links students with scientists and other experts to counteract the myths about drugs and alcohol that teens get from the internet, TV, movies, music, or from friends. It was launched in 2010 by scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to stimulate educational events in communities so teens can learn what science has taught us about drug abuse and addiction. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism became a partner starting in 2016, and alcohol has been added as a topic area for the week. NIDA and NIAAA are part of the National Institutes of Health.

Inside the Classrooms at OMS

Students in Mrs. Treanor's 7th Grade Social Studies class created iMovies on different U.S. Presidents. The students were assigned a President and then asked to make a case for why that President should be inducted into the "Presidential Hall of Fame." The students conducted research in the library and created the iMovies with the help of Mrs. Treanor and Mrs. Johnson, our Library Media Specialist.
