Summer Edition
Welcome to Wiley H. Bates Middle School 2023-2024
Welcome to our special “summer edition" of the Cougar Chronicle! Weekly, during the school year, we will communicate with parents regarding all the important events, dates and activities at Bates. To make sure you receive this important weekly newsletter, when you update your Emergency Contact Form this summer/fall, INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS! The Chronicle is emailed to parents, usually on Sundays but can also be accessed on the Bates Website.
We are already looking forward to a great year at Bates. We have a few opportunities to help you prepare your student for this upcoming year. In this edition of the chronicle, you will find information about 6th grade summer orientation, start dates and school hours, to do list, and our uniform policy.
Staying involved with your student is the best way to ensure their academic and social success! We hope you will consider joining the Bates PTA as well as taking advantage of opportunities such as volunteering at our school or joining our #BePresent pilot program. Please read below and stay tuned for more information to come. Have a great summer and get ready for a great year!

UNIFORMS
All students at Bates Middle School are required to wear a uniform to school daily! Shirts must be purchased from the school. The color of the uniform shirt is determined by grade level.
6th grade – Black Polos
7th grade – Royal Blue Polos
8th grade – Gray and/or Purple Polos
All students wear uniform style pants, shorts, skirts and/or skorts in either khaki (tan), black or navy. Uniform style pants/shorts/skirts are readily available for purchase from local and online retailers such as Old Navy and JCPenny. The Bates-issued logo polos are priced at $9 (Purple Polos $5). Bates outerwear includes Bates-issued sweatshirts (cost $12). Occasionally we will hold “Spirit Days” which enables students some fun options (i.e., jeans and jerseys).
Students, we hear you! We have had many requests by our students for a plaid uniform skirt. We have found an option on Amazon that we have approved. If you would like to purchase a plaid skirt, we have approved the plaid lilac or purple option at this link (as well as plain khaki, navy, or black). Click here to purchase!
