5th Grade Recognition Slide Show-5th GRADERS ONLY-REPEAT
It's only March, but we're planning ahead for the end of the year! It's time to start looking through your old files and albums because Mrs. Grenier is collecting photos for our 5th grade recognition slideshow. We're especially looking for school related photos: kindergarten graduation, first days, field trips, friends at the bus stop, virtual learning, friend groups, photos with teachers, etc. Please send your 5th grade photos to Mrs. Grenier at this special email address: Beach5thGrade@gmail.com. We may not be able to use all of the photos that we receive, but we'll do our best to make sure that all of our 5th graders are represented! Remember, this is just for this year's 5th graders! Please include your student's full name as the subject of your email. Remember that any pictures that are sent may be used in our slideshow which will be shared with all BES 5th grade families.
Join the Calvert County Public Schools Wellness Challenge-REPEAT
In collaboration with Calvert County Public Schools, Calvert Health, and Calvert Health Department, you are invited to join a FREE community-wide wellness initiative beginning Monday March 20th and running through Friday April 14th. The focus of the wellness challenge is enhancing personal well-being by focusing on Mindfulness and Sleep.
Throughout the challenge, log nighttime sleep hours, develop a healthy sleep routine, and build better habits that improve sleep quality for more energy, better immunity, and less stress. The goal of the challenge is to get at least 7-9 hours of a sleep each night. Of all the behaviors that impact health, sleep is one of the most important components to well-being. Join the challenge to understand the benefits of quality rest and build healthy behaviors to improve sleep, decrease risk of disease and chronic illness, increase productivity, and effectively manage emotions.
To join the challenge, click on the following link to register a new membership with an email and password and bookmark the defi wellness website. Register for the challenge as a family or as an individual. Use the CHALLENGE CODE CC13 and follow the prompts to complete registration. If you’ve participated in a CCPS wellness challenge in the past, visit the website, click PROFILE on the gray toolbar, select “register for a new challenge” and enter the CC13 code. Please email awesome@defiwell.net for registration support.
Registration is complete and you can access the dashboard. Activity is not visible on the dashboard until the challenge begins Monday, March 20th. Use the tool bar on the side to navigate the website and explore additional resources.
Participation
Participation is voluntary and opened to ALL Calvert County Public Schools staff, students, families, and community members. The goal is to be mindful of daily behaviors that impact personal health and wellbeing while supporting one another in an online platform. Be realistic in your health and wellbeing by deciding what area of wellness you’d like to challenge yourself with in the next 4-weeks. Success requires time, effort, and consistency. How will you become calmer, more present, well-rested version of yourself? Every challenge allows you to individualize your goal to make it realistic and meaningful to you. Get excited about improving your health and being part of a community that celebrates health and wellness for all!
Click the “My Challenges” tab to view the health-enhancing activities and register for up to three of the six different challenges to support your health as we move into spring.
- MINDFULNESS: learn to be present in the moment, express gratitude, and improve sleep.
- PLANT-BASED EATING: set a daily fruit and vegetable goal for better nutrition.
- SLEEP: create a healthy sleep schedule and prioritize rest to enhance wellbeing.
- SOCIAL MEDIA: limit the amount of time spent on social media per day.
- STEPS: increase physical activity throughout the day and move your body.
- WATER: drink enough water for proper hydration, mental clarity, and optimal performance.
Track Your Progress
The wellness challenge is about adopting behaviors that improve health. By consistently reporting activities every day, setting small goals for behavior change, and challenging yourself to prioritize health and wellness, you can make a big impact on your overall well-being. Logging progress into a system holds you accountable for your goals and allows teammates and coworkers to support you in your efforts. Log in to the defi wellness website on a computer, tablet, or phone and track your progress toward your goals.
Commit & Recruit
Sign up for a challenge and encourage family, friends, and co-workers to participate with you for accountability. Start spring with a focus on improving overall health! This is a county-wide initiative so let’s prioritize personal wellbeing across Calvert County. Sign up with teammates for bonus points in the challenge and cheer each other on by recognizing hard work on the dashboard. Add pictures to the gallery to celebrate your commitment to your health and wellbeing.

Scholastic Book Fair-REPEAT
Our spring Scholastic book fair will take place during the week of May 1st through the 5th. As we'll be starting our big packing project to move to our new building, we'd like to keep the book fair as simple as possible. This book fair will be CASH FREE. All families will need to set up a Scholastic E-Wallet for student purchases.
The E-Wallet works much like a gift card; you set the amount with your credit or debit card on our Scholastic site, give your student their Scholastic E-Wallet print out, and then we do the rest. You can also share your student's E-Wallet with family and friends who might like to add more funds for your student to shop. Any leftover E-Wallet funds stay on your student's account for future book fairs or online Scholastic shopping.
We've been using E-Wallets for a few years now and they really are helpful. No need to worry about your student forgetting or losing book fair cash when it's already taken care of online!
Regular credit card and check purchases will be available on our after-school family night. More information about the fair will come home over the next few weeks. We'll be needing lots of volunteers!
Visit our book fair site here to learn more or to set up your account. https://www.scholastic.com/bf/beachelementaryschoolMD
Thank you!
