Falco March 22nd - April 2nd

NO SCHOOL MARCH 29, 30, and 31ST
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Falcon Families,
It’s humbling to think about where we were one year ago and all that has transpired since then. My boys have been reflecting on all we’ve experienced and one made the comment, “I don’t know if I remember what it was like at school.” That has really made me pause to think about all we need to do to make sure students and families feel like they have the information they need to feel confident about what to expect on April 19.
In order to prepare staff for the transition to a new learning model, we will have Inservice days for staff March 29, 30, and 31. There will be no school these days (this includes both synchronous and asynchronous lessons, and LIPI). BSD has sent out information about these dates earlier this week, but I wanted to be sure to remind you! I told the LIPI students today that Spring Break would be three days longer for them and they hadn’t heard this yet so I wanted to ensure it was clear! Students’ first day of class after their break will be April 1.
Over spring break and the following weeks, we will be working on videos and lessons to prepare students to make the transition. For our students staying in CDL for the remainder of the year, it will still be another transition to anticipate. In addition to lessons, we will hold meetings like we did before school started for students and families to be able to ask questions. Our Parent Q/A will be April 13 from 6-7 pm. We will have two student sessions during lunch times (11-12) on April 12 and 15.
I hope you have a fun and safe break! We’ll look forward to seeing everyone April 1!
Familias Falcon,
IMMUNIZATION REMINDER
Children must be up-to-date on their immunizations before returning to In-Person Hybrid Instruction. If students fail to get their proper immunizations, students won’t be allowed on campus for any reason (no Hybrid, no athletics and no school events) until they’re up-to-date.
Students and families may access immunizations at both the Beaverton School-Based Health Center and the Merlo School-Based Health Center in addition to their own health care providers.

RACHEL CARSON 8TH GRADE ACTION PROJECT
Hello! My name is Bella Paris, I am an 8th grader on the Groot team and for my 8th-grade action project, I am taking action against Puppy Mills.
Puppy Mills are a form of in-home breeding that people do without a license. The only reason people do these puppy mills is for money and to sell the puppies. The breeders sell them online or in pet stores. They're also very inhumane. The dogs in puppy mills usually don't have clean water or much food. The mother dogs are bred over and over again until they just give out. When they can't have puppies anymore they are inhumanely euthanized. The dogs are bred for quantity, not quality which usually results in health issues. For these reasons, I am asking for your help to stop Puppy Mills.
To help the fight against Puppy Mills I am sponsoring a petition to send to Governor Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler. The reason I am creating this petition is that owning a puppy mill is extreme animal abuse and is breaking many laws (ORS167.367). You can help by signing my petition to get the following laws passed in the Oregon Legislature:
#1: A person can not have more than 5 sexually intact dogs that are old enough to get neutered or spayed in their custody.
#2: A Pet Store can only sell animals that come from pet shelters such as the Oregon Humane Society.
#3: A breeder can advertise online or have a website to advertise but can not sell animals online.
I am also spreading awareness about Puppy Mills by presenting to different classrooms. My goal in presenting is to raise awareness in younger people so hopefully, they know where to responsibly get a pet if they are getting one with their family.
If you have any questions you can email me here.
Thank you so much for your time!
Bella Paris
