Greetings Woodcrest community,
National Public Schools Week
I hope this finds you after a relaxing long weekend.
As I shared in the last newsletter, the revised Face Mask Decision-Making Guide is now in effect. Face masks are strongly recommended for everyone at Woodcrest. Masks will be required temporarily if 5 percent or more of students and staff are out with COVID-19 or COVID-like symptoms. You can follow this data, which is updated weekly, on the COVID-19 hub. Please note, face masks continue to be required on buses following federal requirements. Please send your bus rider with a face mask (and an extra!).
We are in the midst of the Panther Foundation Week of Giving! The Silent Auction featuring more than 300 packages opens tonight at 6 p.m. There are a lot of exciting things to bid on. If auctions are not your thing, you can also get involved by dining at local restaurants and by continuing to show your Panther Spirit. On Thursday, wear all blue and Friday show your Panther Pride by wearing spirit wear. Thanks for supporting our students! I hope to see some of you at the Panther Party on Saturday. Find everything you need to know at SpringLakeParkSchools.org/GiveBack.
This week also is National Public Schools Week. Not often do we pause and consider the truly awesome responsibility that public schools and Spring Lake Park Schools specifically tackle each day. The efforts to create safe, equitable, and engaging learning experiences is no small task. I am grateful to everyone here at Woodcrest and Spring Lake Park Schools for their considerable efforts so that each student here feels valued, inspired, and has a sense of belonging.
Con gratitúd,
John Franke
Kindergarten priority placement - February 28
Families with children who will be going into kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year are encouraged to enroll their child by Monday, February 28. This is the priority placement deadline that provides the best opportunity for your first choice in what school your child will attend.
Please visit the kindergarten webpage to enroll your child. You can also find additional information about kindergarten options at SLP, how to request an elementary school tour or how to contact our enrollment office with any questions.
Spring Pictures
Spring Pictures will take place on March 8, 2022 in the Pina Room. As a reminder, only students that will be placing orders for spring pictures will be photographed. If parents would like to place an order, please go to the Lifetouch website and use picture day ID: EVTBR7MC4
Industry roundtable focuses on the future
Small and large business, non-profit, government and education leaders came together at Spring Lake Park High School last week to discuss the skills graduates need and how school and community can partner to build the future. More than two dozen leaders participated in the industry roundtable conversations, representing a variety of sectors – including retail, hospitality, health care, finance, manufacturing, construction, government and more. Participants provided insight on the skills and mindsets graduates need to succeed in the workforce. Read the full story here.
If you’re interested in becoming a partner by contributing to future opportunities surrounding this work, please contact Eric Van Brocklin, evanbr@district16.org, 763-600-5100.

Panthers for a Purpose Giving Week is Here!
There are many ways to participate in this week of giving and SLP Panther pride. Thank you for your participation, generosity and support as we shine a light on the important milestone beginnings that create confident and comfortable kids who are ready for their next steps.
- Show your spirit: Dress head to toe in our school colors. Send in photos (pantherfoundation@district16.org) to be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to the Panther Store:
- Thursday, February 24 – Blue Out
- Friday, February 25 – Panther Spirit Day!
- Browse and bid on silent auction items: The auction officially opens tonight at 6 p.m. and closes Friday evening at 8 p.m. Browse more than 350 packages featuring trips, artisan pieces, Panther gear, restaurant gift cards, adult libations, unique experiences and MORE! Visit the Panthers for a Purpose Event Website for details and bidding tips.
- Dine-to-Donate: See a schedule of community restaurants who are partnering with us this week. Dine at one of the four locations during the week, mention the Panther Foundation/SLP and a portion of your sales will go to the Panther Foundation!
- Support the Fund-A-Dream Milestone Moments project: By donating directly to this special project, 100 percent of your donation will support this year's Fund-A-Dream, Milestone Moments Project. The project funds important beginnings - Kinder Camp (for incoming K’s), Westwood Welcome (the 4th to 5th grade transition) and Panther Mentors (transition to high school).
Find Panther Party details for Saturday and everything you need to know about this year's event on the Panthers for a Purpose Event Website.
Grade 7-8 Theater: Guys & Dolls JR
Come support our grades 7-8 theater students in "Guys & Dolls JR" next week at the SLPHS Fine Arts Center. Filled with gamblers, missionaries and everything in between, Guys and Dolls JR has the catchiest score and most charming and funny characters this side of New York City. And according to protagonist Nathan Detroit, odds are 3:1 that you'll walk out happy and humming a tune!
Performances:
- Thursday, March 3, 7 p.m.
- Friday, March 4, 7 p.m.
- Saturday, March 5, 2 p.m.
Purchase your tickets online or at the Fine Arts Center for $1 more on the day of the production.
Winter Family Event
Come join Woodcrest families on Sunday, March 6 at Springbrook Nature Center from 1-4 p.m. There will be indoor and outdoor activities including story walk, bonfire with camp stories, crafts, and STEM activities.
PTO will be providing hot chocolate while supplies last.
We will need lots of helping hands to fill short 30 minute spots to guide families through events. The volunteer opportunities are posted on Konstella.
This is not a drop-off event - a guardian must be present with each student during the time at Springbrook.
Box Top Collection
Last call to turn in physical Box Tops for this school year. Please turn them into the office by February 25 to be included in our next submission mailing. (Box tops collected after this date will be submitted next fall.)
Most items no longer have physical box tops. If you download the Box Top App, you can scan your receipt and PTO will still receive 10 cents for each item. If you shop online, simply forward your emailed receipts using the same email account that is registered with your box tops account. Submitting box tops in these ways can be done throughout the entire year-even summer-but must be completed within two weeks of purchase!
Summer Reading Initiative
If you are working on a New Year's Resolution to clear clutter from your house-Woodcrest PTO is collecting gently used books for our annual Summer Reading Initiative. Just before school is finished, students are able to pick out free books to read over summer break. We will have a drop off box in the lobby, or if you have a large amount we can pick them up from your house too!
