School Threats are No Joke

Hoax threats can result in federal prosecution, prison time

In recent weeks, online hoaxes directed at schools in our area have continued to build upon the trauma our community experienced following the tragic school shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School on Oct. 24. FBI St. Louis shares that hoax threats are a serious crime where individuals can face state, local or federal charges; and when charged federally, a defendant faces up to five years in federal prison. It is not difficult for law enforcement to track down the person who makes a threat, even if it is made anonymously.

In addition, the FBI cautions that people should not share any threats they see on social media. Sharing a threat can spread misinformation and cause panic. Instead, report it immediately to law enforcement.

Our school district takes every single threat seriously, devoting resources and time to investigate and keep our students safe. Stating a threat in person or posting a threat online can result in serious disciplinary consequences, even if the post is intended as a joke or prank.

Lindbergh Schools strongly encourages families to talk with students about the importance of making smart choices, being respectful online, and never, ever making a threat, joking or otherwise.

St. Louis County Offers Free COVID-19, RSV, Flu Testing

Testing is one of our most important tools during the fall and winter months. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services offers free drive-through testing for COVID-19, RSV and the flu at South County Health Center on Thursdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.. This testing will continue through March 2023.

Patients of all ages are able to get tested, no appointment required. To receive a test, simply enter the drive-through line at the clinic. Patients can pre-register through the NextGen patient portal, and they will receive results by email. If a patient does not have an email account, NextGen staffers will register them at the site and call them with results. The Get Tested patient portal can be found at dynd.gettested.me.

COVID test kits continue to be available for pickup at South County Health Center Mondays and Fridays, from 8 a.m. until noon. For more information please visit the DPH Testing page.
