Imagine No Violence Art Contest Winners

Last weekend the Imagine No Violence Art Contest had their award ceremony and grand prize award presentation. Diego Ponce, Ariana Bradley, and Landry Picone represented Bedford Junior High in the high school category. Min Jun Joung, Lyra Ehninger, and Taylor Gomel represented BJH in the junior high category. They each won cash awards. We didn’t win the grand prize trips to Disney World, but this year they had an audience choice award and Landry Picone won 1st place! Landry won a trip for four to Six Flags, a parking pass, and spending money. Each school year more than 45,000 Tarrant County area students participate in this contest and create original artworks promoting nonviolence. It was a great event and I am so proud of our Bedford Junior High artists.

At the HEB Solo Contest, the Bedford Jr. High Band students brought home 117 1st divisions. Mrs. Howell and Mrs. Johnson are extremely proud of the effort our students put into this contest. They have once again proven that the Bedford students are the best!

On Friday, May 6th, 2016, the 72 member Varsity Mixed Choir of Bedford Junior High traveled to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas to compete in the Spring in the Park Music Festival. Competing against middle school and junior high school choirs from all over Texas, the choir students performed two selections from the UIL prescribed music list for a panel of three judges. The choir received a Level I or Superior Rating from all three judges and in addition, the Varsity Mixed Choir received a Best in Class Trophy for best choir performance of the day. Following the contest, the students walked to Klyde Warren Park for lunch before returning to school. It was a great day for Bedford Junior High. Congratulations, BJH Choir students!

The LD Bell Choir Booster Club awarded a scholarship to Caitlin Gomez so that she may attend an All State Choir Camp this summer. She received a $100 scholarship and will attend camp at Tarrant County College in August. Best of luck Caitlin, as you pursue a spot in the Texas All State Choir.
