Inspiring Passionate Learners
Restorative Practices and Green Circles
Our school day is longer and yet we still struggle with having enough time to teach and provide intervention for our kids. What is one activity or practice you could let go of to pick up something can could buy you more time for creating an environment where everyone shares the responsibility of every learner moving forward? Green circles will accomplish this in just 30 minutes a week.
Green Circles Accomplish the Following:
Build relationships, trust, empathy and a sense of belonging
RP is designed to build relationships and change behaviors.
It’s not meant to fix kids.
This process can’t be put into a matrix or into tiers.
Build a culture of relationship language, circles, respect agreements, respect meter
Provide time to check in , check up, check out
Make a 2 minute connection for 10 days with a struggling student.
3 prong approach- teachers have to share about themselves in circles and students have to share to create a culture where we're all for one and one for all.

Lift Others with Words
This six weeks our focus is on being thankful for those around us and showing this gratitude by lifting others with positive words. Do you have those caring compassionate students who are always supporting their peers and you? Brag on them and send them to morning announcements! Consider having a shout out board in your classroom or hallway, like fifth grade has, where students can shout it out on a sticky note for all to see. Gratitude changes the heart and culture of everything. When our students learn to be grateful for the strengths of others, they stop and think before they carrying out a negative action.
Who are you thankful for and how are they supporting you? Shout it out on the brag board in the teacher's lounge.
Closing the Gaps
Thank you for everything you're doing to close the gaps for our students who are at-risk. This year, we have more readers than ever before who are below grade level. 53 of our students are at risk in reading. This is one of those times we realize it does take a village to ensure all of our students achieve at the highest possible level. Thank you Kristine Daniel for organizing our reading mentor program with both Navo Student Council and our BHS football players!
Teachers- please have an easy sight word practice activity and guided reading books ready for your student's mentors when they begin working with our Falcons. There truly is a time bomb ticking and every second counts for these kids. They are at 50% greater risk of dropping out of school if they aren't reading on grade level by the end of second grade. Together, we can accomplish great things!!!
