Hall of Fame
On Thursday, September 21, New Prague Area Schools inducted five members to The Hall of Fame! Congratulations to our 2023 distinguished honorees: Mike DeGross for athletics, Tom Chromy for alumni, and JeNean Erickson, Jason Witt, and Steve Collins for their outstanding service. Inductees were recognized at the Friday night Homecoming football game in acknowledgement of their exceptional achievements and contributions to the New Prague Area Schools and our communities. Inductee JeNean Erickson stated, “I was humbled and honored to be chosen by the selection committee to be inducted into the New Prague High School Hall of Fame. Growing up in New Prague, this community and school district have always been very dear to me. It has been my honor to serve the community and the school district. Go, Trojans!”
Welcome Early Learning PreK Students
During the week of September 5, New Prague Early Learning welcomed over 285 kids to their preschool program! New this year to the PreK programming is our nature preschool class. Nature preschool is full of exploration, observation, questions and amazement! The nature preschool class spends the majority of their time together outdoors, allowing students to explore and learn hands on. Early Learning teacher, Michelle Trcka encourages students to use all their senses to explore their natural learning environment. She has enjoyed watching her students’ curiosity, problem-solving skills and creativity when they are allowed to freely play in the mud kitchen area. Students have worked together to create structures and build towers by using simple objects in nature.
In the first month of learning, Early Learning students have engaged in activities such as nature walks to the Living Lab and observed wildlife in its natural habitat, fishing at Cedar Lake and learning how apples are picked, washed and sorted at an apple orchard!
The nature preschool approach fosters independence while promoting problem-solving skills and self advocacy. In addition, it prepares children for academic success and instills a lifelong love for learning. Already, staff have seen growth in each child attending the class! There has been growth in relationship building, collaboration and understanding of their environment and their surroundings.
Trcka added, “I am excited to see where my students' curiosity brings us to next!”
NPAEF Summer Social 2023
The 2nd Annual New Prague Education Summer Social was held on August 24 to raise funds for the Foundation. The evening was filled with delicious food and live music with over 150 supporters of the NPAEF in attendance. The NPAEF is working toward building a legacy that promotes a community of innovative, lifelong learners through grants and scholarships! Money raised at the Summer Social went toward scholarships for high school seniors seeking post-secondary education and for educators seeking classroom support tools! You can learn more about the NPAEF here.
NPHS Hosts Minnesota Education Fair
The Minnesota Association of College Admissions Counselors hosted a Minnesota Education Fair at New Prague High School in late September. This experience gave our students and families an opportunity to meet with 65 post-secondary representatives from both two- and four-year colleges from Minnesota and surrounding states. A big thank you to our high school counselors for their work in hosting this event so our students could gain valuable insight of post-secondary options!
