December 21st, 2018
Parents and Guardians of Northside Elementary School Students,
I want to update you on an upcoming change in building leadership. I have accepted the position as Superintendent of Schools for Eastland School District #308 and will begin working with that organization on July 1, 2019.
It has been an absolute honor and privilege to serve this school and district for the last seven years as your building Principal and to work with and for wonderful kids, exceptional staff, and an incredibly supportive and positively involved parents and community members.
I am forever thankful for the patience, dedication, and commitment you have shown me over the years and I will look back on this experience as a highlight of my professional career.
The district will be posting the principal position for the 2019-2020 school year immediately and a search will begin in January.
My work here at Northside is not done. I look forward to spending next semester working together with staff and students on ensuring a positive learning experience!
On behalf of my wife, Laura, and our three daughters, I cannot thank you enough for being a wonderful school family for us.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kashner
Winter Weather Reminders
All children will be outside when the "feels like" temperature reaches 10 degrees and above. Please dress accordingly. The children will be inside for recess on days that "feels like" temperature is under 10 degrees.
To determine this temperature we will utilize www.weather.com.
Health Reminders
It's that time of year... Below are the health requirements to prevent the spread of germs!
- Students must be fever free (without medication) for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
- If your child has been vomiting or has diarrhea, please do not send your child to school until they are able to tolerate solid foods without vomiting or having loose stools.
- If your child needs to take medication during the day (either prescribed or over the counter), a parent or guardian needs to fill out a medical authorization form and turn into the nurse. Medication needs to be brought in by an adult.
- Encourage your child to wash their hands!
Student Technology Use Reminders
Some highlights include: Only accessing sites directed by staff; Not making changes on any settings on the device; Not accessing chat features unless directed; If commenting digitally, maintaining appropriate comments; Not sending personal text messages during school day (including before school in the gym.)
This is not only important in ensuring they can access technology at school, but this discussion can be good practice for what safeguards are happening at home too.
Safe Snacks
Only items on the District Approved list will be accepted in the classroom. This includes birthday treats, holiday/party treats, treat-bag items and valentine candy.
Food for personal snacks eaten in the classroom must be an item from the snack list. Snacks may be packaged individually at home.
Attendance
According to our policy, if a child has ten (10) days of excused and/or unexcused absences the following may take place:
- 10 day absence policy letter sent home
- Any student who has accumulated ten (10) days of unexcused and/or excused absences per year must obtain a doctor's note for each and every absence over the ten (10) days to be considered excused.
Reminder: Nine (9) total unexcused absences means a student is in direct violation of the Compulsory Attendance Laws of Illinois. Administration reserves the right to contact the Henry County Truant Officer.
Please note that there will be times your child will be sent home because of illness. Arrangements should be made to have your child picked up within the hour. This is for the well-being of your child and other students.
