Classification of Living Organisms

Student Goals

By the end of this unit, I will be able to:

  1. Construct and use Dichotomous Keys to classify organisms.
  2. Interpret a Cladogram or Phylogenetic Tree showing evolutionary relationships among organisms.
  3. Describe relationships based on Homologous Structures.
  4. Compare Structural Characteristics of an extinct organisms with current organisms based on Fossils.
  5. Recognize similarities in embryonic stages in diverse organisms and infer relationships.
  6. Compare Biochemical evidence (DNA or Amino Acid Sequences) and describe relationships.
  7. Investigate Flora and Fauna in the field and apply classification systems.
