@Trailside Library
August 2020
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year
My name is Cindy Keller and I am thrilled to be your child’s librarian. I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of this amazing Trailside community. I was a classroom teacher for 20 years, before embarking on an adventure in the library. I taught many grades here at Trailside Elementary where I walked to school with my now-adult kids, Ali and Max.
Although this school year is not how any of us wanted to start, some good news is the library is still open for business.
- Curbside pickup: Students will be able to reserve a book and then it will be available for families to come and pick it up. I am trying to make it as easy as ABC.
- Daily PK-2 Storytime with guest readers and teachers (virtual)
- Battle of the Books for 3/4 and 5/6 (virtual)
- Family tech support and login issues
- Family support for reading
Battle of the Books-Practices starting week of 9/14
The Battle of the Books is a statewide program sponsored by the Alaska Association of School Librarians intended to broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and promote academic excellence. Each year a committee of teachers and librarians select book lists and write questions for all grade levels. Students read, discuss the books, and compete in teams to answer questions based on the books. Competitions are held at the local, state, and district level. Visit the Battle of the Books website for more information.
ASD is planning on Battle of the Books in some form this year! Other districts in the US who held their battles in March & April last year did it virtually. ASD is looking into different options if in-person battling isn't an option this year.
Who can join Trailaside Battle of the books? AnyTrailside face to face or virtual student may join. Also if your child was a former Trailside Student and you chose to home school they are invited as well.
UNTIL PERMISSION SLIPS, PRACTICE TIMES Finalized (most likely 12-1 one day a week), zoom sessions created and links and information sent out......
