As a public health student, I have learned the importance of spreading accurate and reliable public health information. Throughout this pandemic, the public has been filled with scary rumors and false information. This information can often drive certain behaviors in individuals. This pandemic has really shown me the importance of making sure the public knows how to fact check their information sources, and to make sure the information they see is actually accurate.

COVID-19: Global Response and Recovery Panel
We are a team of global-health focused student organizations--Partners in Health, Global Health Union, and UNICEF at UGA--collaborating on a virtual COVID-19 global response panel. As undergraduate students, our understanding of the ongoing pandemic is often limited by US-centric dialogue. We want this panel to widen our perspectives and understandings of the global effect of COVID-19.
This panel will be held on October 27th at 7 pm on Zoom.
Our speakers will be joining us from Athens and internationally:
- Dr. Paula Davis-Olwell, UGA Global Health Institute
- Dr. Mark Tompkins, UGA Center for Vaccines and Immunology
- Dr. Mariana Prandini Assis, Feminist social science researcher and lawyer, Schulich Law School

These perturbations, elicited by environmental chemicals, dietary supplements, and drugs, can alter the dynamics of the molecular circuits and n etworks operating in cells, leading to multiple disease endpoints. In close collaboration with experimental biologists and toxicologists, he develop mechanistically based computational systems biology models of cellular biochemical and toxicity pathways. Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Mini-Grants
Applicants are asked to formulate a community research project that addresses a public health problem confronted by underrepresented or otherwise marginalized/underserved members of the Athens-Clarke County community. The program, launched in Fall 2018 by the College’s Committee for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (CoDIE), allows students to not only make a impact in the local community, but gain experience in the grant proposal writing process. This includes identifying a problem or need, thinking through the logistics of research design, identifying and developing stakeholders in the community, and mapping out ways to implement research and outreach.
Project budgets can be up to $1,000. Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Friday, October 23, 2020.
Have additional questions? Please contact Anne Marie Zimiri. Read about previous mini-grant winners here.

AthensHelpWithCovid.com
Dear Friends and Classmates,
We recently launched AthensHelpWithCovid.com, an Athens-area partnership platform where UGA students and other Athens Residents can sign up for volunteer positions that have opened up due to the pandemic and ongoing economic crisis, providing essential support to the community at this time. The platform streamlines volunteer opportunities so that local non-profits and government can recruit and on-board volunteers quickly and efficiently. Some of the positions will be on-site, and some can be done remotely. As this situation continues to evolve, we anticipate that our community will need a lot of help from you in the coming months. Based on our conversations with local organizations, it is clear that they are looking for volunteers with a variety of skills—skills that you as students possess — in programming, engineering, management, communications, research and analysis, driving, food preparation, planning, mask making, and more.
Our platform intends to efficiently match supply and demand of talents. But our platform is only as successful as its users: the more users there are, the more effective the tool is for the community.
We hope that you will consider going to AthensHelpWithCovid.com and signing up as a volunteer.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact us at athenshelpwithcovid@gmail.com
Regards,
Joshua Beadles
