Week 26 - WOW! The last week of February 2019...
A week in review...
Our Scripps National Spelling Bee wrapped up on Tuesday morning. Our WINNER from MPMS is Ashley Gyawali! Congrats to her and all that were brave enough to participate.
Digital Learning Day is an annual day celebrated around the country each year. On Thursday, many teachers showcased their awesome instruction via Twitter! Please take a moment to visit the various Twitter feeds shared below.
Don't forget that the 8th grade writing SOL is right around the corner! The test(s) will take place on March 7th and March 12th. If your child is taking the test(s), please help ensure they are well rested and on time to school.
PICTURE DAY - Friday, March 8th: Pictures will ONLY be taken of those that bring in their picture form and money! If your child needs another form, please have them ask in the front office.
A reminder about the importance of school attendance: As I have written in the newsletter once per month, school attendance is not only critical to success in school, but is also now part of the accreditation evaluation for all public schools in Virginia. Students should minimize their absences, or if they need to miss school for a doctor/dentist appointment, should be in school for as much of the school day as possible.
A good rule of thumb is to miss no more than 2 days in a month. Truancy begins when a child misses 10 days of school, and the label of "chronically absent student" is added when a student has missed more than 10% of the school year. This week we passed the 100 day mark, so if you child has more than 8 absences, please push to ensure you child is in school the remainder of the school year.
If you have any attendance questions, please call the school and ask! We will be happy to help!
