Barksdale Book Club K-2nd Grade
Monthly Newsletter-April 2015
Message from Mrs. Edwards
Dear Book Club Members,
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Book Club meeting last Thursday. I was so excited to see all of our students and get to discuss the wonderful Dr. Seuss. The group first voted for their favorite Dr. Seuss story, and the winner by a slight margin was Green Eggs and Ham with The Lorax coming in 2nd place. We then read the book The Boy From Fairfield Street by Kathleen Krull where the students learned about how the childhood of Ted Geisel and how it influenced him to write and become Dr. Seuss. Finally, we had some fun Seuss like puzzles and mazes that the students worked on. It was so much fun to celebrate the life of this amazing author!
As mentioned before, each month we will have a different theme. For our next meeting on Thursday, April 21st, we will head into the magical world of FANTASY STORIES. Wizards, mythical creatures, and magical lands await our students in these tales. They will truly enjoy the imaginative nature of the stories where the impossible can happen. Please check out the lists below for titles and recommendations to find books that should fit the various reading level of our students in the group.
Early in the week of our meeting, I will be sending a reminder email of the date and time. At that time, I will also send a form where you will fill out the titles of the books that you have read. This will be your ticket into our next meeting on Thursday, April 21st. At our meeting, all of our students will have the opportunity to share about the books they have read. We will also have some fun activities planned to go with our theme. If you wish to have snacks, students will need to bring their own to the meeting. Please make sure to also send a note with your student the day of the meeting to let their teacher know that they will be going to Book Club that day. Our meetings will be from 2:45 to 3:45 in the library. We look forward to seeing all of our Book Club members back at that time!
We have lots of students signed up for our club, so we are definitely need of assistance with our meeting activities. Any parents who are able to come and help, please email me if you are interested in volunteering or have any questions.
I am looking forward to seeing our students at the next Book Club meeting!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Edwards
