Pennsylvania
Where you can let your light shine!
Philadelphia
Philadelphia was a colony in Pennsylvania, and in 1682, had 4,000 inhabitants. Philadelphia is Greek for "city of brotherly love".
It's tolerable
I came to the colony of Pennsylvania because it offered both religious toleration and economic opportunity. Our founder William Penn, was a Quaker and the son of one of King Charles II's leading supporters. As a Quaker, Penn was eager to get out of England. Life was horrible for us in England. In 1661 alone, 4,000 English Quakers were jailed, and Penn himself was jailed four times. We are a radical set of Protestants who believe that God offers salvation to all and places an "inner light" inside everyone. We are hardworking, serious, and moral. We reject violence and refuse to serve in the military or pay taxes for its support. We were attracted to this colony by the promise of self-government, freedom of religion, and reasonably priced land.
