Skate Night Is January 26

Join your classmates at Skate Country in Buford on Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., for Suwanee Elementary Skate Night. Skate Country is located at 2700 Buford Hwy., in Buford. Be sure to sign-in at the Suwanee Elementary table when you arrive to be eligible for prizes. A drawing will be held for a free pair of skates from Skate Country! The class with most students in attendance will also be rewarded. Admission is just $4 and includes regular skate rental. Speed skate or in-line skate rental is $2. Please note that this is not a drop-off event. A parent or guardian must be present at Skate Country.

The Media Center and PTA are excited to announce our author visit for this year: Kelly DiPucchio!

Kelly is the award-winning author of several children’s books: Clink, Everyone Loves Bacon, Gaston, and more. Two of her books, Grace For President and The Sandwich Swap, were New York Times bestsellers. The media center will be hosting a mini book fair the week before Kelly's visit to allow students to purchase books to be autographed. Details will be sent regarding titles and prices in February.

FREE text service for parents of 4 & 5 yr olds

  • provides literacy & math tips and resources
  • now available in English and Spanish.


What: Collaborative effort between Georgia Department of Education and Stanford University to create a free text service for parents of 4 & 5 yr olds that includes tips, facts and suggestions to promote early literacy and mathematics.


When: Text messages are sent every 2 to 3 days.

Georgia Milestones Assessment System Results

The Spring 2015 Georgia Milestones Assessment Results are in the Parent Portal for students who were in grades 3 through 5 during Spring 2015. In the Portal, parents can access a Parent Guide that explains the electronic score report. Girls on the Run Spring Registration

Girls on the Run will begin spring registration, using a lottery system, on January 14th.

GOTR meets twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m, beginning February 8th and ending the week of April 25th at Suwanee Elementary. The GOTR program is for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls. Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls. We teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. The fee is $170 for the 12-week season, and partial scholarships are available during online registration on a sliding scale fee starting at $25.

Safety and Security

All schools have a safety and security plans. The plans are designed with the help of school security and support staff members, as well as local law enforcement, emergency management, and public health officials. Plans are reviewed and updated regularly. These plans include procedures to respond to critical incidents such as tornados, medical emergencies and criminal acts. All staff members are trained on all procedures as it relates to how to handle issues related to safety and security.
