Just a reminder . . .
The Pillars of Character Education
Petersham Center School is going to emphasize the Pillars of Character Education: Compassion, Fairness, Integrity, Perseverance, Responsibility, Respect, and Self-Discipline for our Citizen of the Month Program going forward. Below is a brief description of each pillar.
At each Student Assembly, a student will be announced from each class who was an exemplary model of the pillar of the month, given a certificate signed by the Principal, their picture will be hung in the cafeteria, and a PCS Citizen of the Month cinch bag.
November: COMPASSION
Being sympathetic to others' feelings and hardships. You work hard to understand how someone is feeling and do your best to help make them feel better or help their difficult situation
December: FAIRNESS
Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly • Treat all people fairly
January: INTEGRITY
Having respect for yourself and treat others with respect, doing your very best work, working well with others, appreciating yourself
February: PERSEVERANCE
You do not give up doing something, even if it is difficult. Even if you are not successful right away, you keep trying. You try multiple ways to achieve a goal. You also motivate others to keep trying.
March: RESPONSIBILITY
Do what you are supposed to do • Plan ahead • Persevere: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes
April: RESPECT
Treat others with respect how you want to be treated, the Golden Rule • Be tolerant and accepting of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults, and disagreements
May: SELF-DISCIPLINE
Always do your share, always work your hardest, change poor habits, always consider the consequences and make the most the responsible decisions a reminder . . .Specials that take place in the gym
Also, please inform your students that they will now be bringing their water bottles to gym. Please tell them to label theirs. These water bottles will remain on the stage during gym for easy access.
Thanks for being open to making positive changes within our school!
Office Copier
If you should need copies made, please continue what you have been doing and send a student to the office to ask for what you need.
Thanks for your understanding in these procedures!
Lock-Down Unannounced Drill
Just a couple of reminders: everyone did a wonderful job of looking outside their classrooms to see if a student was out there, but please yell "lock down drill" in case someone did not hear- that is referred to as the echo announcement or verbalization. Also, please do not have students move until an announcement over the PA is made in these drills, as the police are still checking areas.
Thanks so much for your quick thinking and your professionalism! Keep up the great work!
