Heros and Epics of Today
Harry Potter
The epic hero in Harry Potter, is as the title says, Harry Potter. In the movie, there is the wizard world and the mortal world. When Harry Potter was a child, Voldemort murdered both his mother and father, however he lived despite Voldemort's efforts to kill him. The love of his mother protected him, even though she died that dreadful night.
The whole entire concept of the Harry Potter series involves Harry Potter fulfilling the prophecy of killing Voldermort. Certain criteria within the film that makes it an epic is Harry Potter being the only person that can stop Voldemort and save the wizard world. Another reason it is an epic, is because Harry must travel to another world in order to fulfill his quest. (from the mortal world, to the wizard world.) The final reason it is an epic is because the epic hero faces temptation from a couple girls. Harry dated a couple girls through his time spent at Hogwarts. (The school of magic in the wizard world)
Three Modern Day SuperHeros
Frodo, Harry, and Katniss's special skills
Frodo: Skills include courage, sacrifice,
Harry Potter: Skills include courage, parseltongue, (can talk to snakes) only person who can defeat the ultimate enemy, Voldemort.
Katniss: Skills include Archery, courage, intellegence
I think we're fascinated with heros because they're special. They're different and they stick out in a special way.
How are these characters related to Beowulf?
All of these characters, including Beowulf, have an immense courage in the face of danger. They also make sacrifices when needed, to help people. They are very loyal, even if they know a fight will be the end of them.
