Welcome Back!
We will be blogging again this year in hopes of continuing to increase our communication with our students and families. Information in our blog throughout the year will keep you up-to-date on college and scholarship information. In addition to following our blog, please read/listen to the daily announcements and check the Counseling Office webpage for additional information (www.corinthcsd.org - page located under Support Services).

2015 College Visitations in the Counseling Office
On the following dates, an Admission Representative from the college/university will be in the Counseling Office to meet with interested students. Please stop by the Counseling Office for a pass if you are interested in learning more about a particular college/university.

Timeline for Applying to College
September - November: Individual student appointments; Search/gather info from websites, catalogs, college reps; Set up college visits
September - December: Take/retake SAT’s/ACT’s; Ask teachers/employers for letters of recommendation
September 21: Fall College Fair @ SUNY Albany, SEFCU Arena (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.)
October 8: Fall College Night at SUNY Adirondack (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
November: Submit CSS Profile application if required by school; Typically the deadline for early decision applications
December 15: All applications completed and submitted to your counselor
January 1: First date FASFA forms can be completed
January (Date TBA): Financial Aid Night (@ CHS 6:30 p.m.)
January - April: Responses from colleges/universities
March - April: Receive financial aid packages from colleges
May 1: Tuition deposit due at the college/university you plan to attend
College Specific/Local Scholarships
The 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: If you have taken part in community service activities over the past year, complete an application at http://spirit.prudential.com. Applications must be submitted to your principal by November 3, 2015.
Elks Foundation - 2016 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest: a scholarship opportunity available for students who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications are currently available online at: www.elks.org/enf/scholars. Application deadline is October 31, 2015.
Wendy’s High School Heisman Award: For seniors with an overall B average who participate in at least one school sponsored sport officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools. Go to: http://www.wendysheisman.com to apply. Deadline: October 2, 2015.
2015 Horatio Alger Scholarship Application: Eligible applicants must be a: 1.) full-time senior who will graduate in June 2015; 2.) plan on pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree at an accredited institution; 3.) have critical financial need; 4.) be involved in co-curricular and community service activities; 5.) have a minimum grade point average of 2.0; 6.) be a US citizen. AES Engineers Scholarship: Students must submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of the website: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm Deadline: October 7, 2015

NCAA Clearinghouse Information
If you expect to participate in athletics at a NCAA Division I or Division II college, you must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The Website is www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. When you register online, please be sure to tell your counselor so your transcript can be sent!
