Christ's Light in our region
It begins quickly after Thanksgiving; sometimes even sooner! One by one, houses along the streets begin to light up the night with Christmas lights, a reminder of the Light of Christ that has come to bring us life! Isaiah introduces Jesus with a bold announcement that "the people walking in darkness have seen a great light". As we begin the Christmas season, I can't help but sense the darkness in our region and our world. Cold weather reminds us of people who don't have homes. The news reminds us of the racial disunity in our nation. But, in the darkness of our world, Christ can't help shining the light of his love through his people. When we reach out to others in service and love, we get to be a part of that light in our neighborhoods and communities. This newsletter features a few opportunities for you to be a light to others this Christmas as well as stories of service happening across our region. You can find even more opportunities to serve at www.ServeSacramento.com May your light shine bright this Christmas season!

Stories of Service: Pocket Area churches together
The Pocket/Greenhaven neighborhoods in South Sacramento have a powerful force in their midst! Churches are uniting and working together to serve the Pocket community in an effort called Pocket Area Churches Together (PACT). PACT consists of five churches (Faith Presbyterian Church, Greenhaven Lutheran Church, Greenhaven Neighborhood Church, Riverside Wesleyan Church, and St. Anthony Catholic Parish) with a mission to come together to meet the needs of others who live in the Pocket/Greenhaven neighborhoods, an area that consists of around 40,000 people.
Pocket Area Churches Together has been serving in unity for the past 5 years. The effort began as a combined Thanksgiving worship service with a goal of local congregations building community through a combined corporate worship time. [read more]
