Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students


Happy Mid-Autumn Festival.

I’m sure you all enjoyed this special time in Hong Kong with family and friends. The students enjoyed making lanterns and moon cakes as part of their cultural programme in Mandarin lessons.


Typhoon Update!

Great news! The footpath access to school is now completely cleared so as from this afternoon normal pick up and drop off arrangements will take place. Thanks so much for your patience and support in keeping everyone safe.


Social Drinks and PTA Annual General Meeting

I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting tomorrow night. This is an excellent opportunity to socialise with other parents and to hear about the achievements of the PTA. Please RSVP via the link in the PTA section of this newsletter.


Have you booked your three-way conference (Teacher, Child and Parents)?

An Exciting New Initiative for Parents!

On Tuesday October 2nd from 8.30 am-10.15 am we would like to invite you in to school to be involved in Parent Circles and Learning Walks. This is a new way of working with you. For more information, and to RSVP, please refer to last week’s newsletter. Please register by Friday. If you have registered by are now unable to come, please let us know.


Technology - Creating a Safer Internet Environment at Home on PC and Mac.

Take back control of your child’s laptop! Attend the workshop on Thursday 4th October (pm) and bring your laptops with you. Be guided as to how to make your laptops safer for your child. This will be a hands-on, informative workshop. Please click here to register for this workshop.

PTA Annual General Meeting and Parents’ Drinks Evening

The Glenealy School PTA AGM and Drinks Evening is tomorrow night!

Start Time: Doors open at 5:45 pm, wrap up by 7:30 pm

Date: Thursday 27th September 2018

Place: The Centre, Glenealy School

To help us plan the catering, please RSVP using the short Google Form here.

Come along and join us for delicious finger food, soft drinks, beer and wine as we briefly review the past year and thank you all for your support. Please note that this is a parent/teacher only evening, so come ready to mix, mingle and enjoy the hospitality!

As per the Supplemental Notice to the AGM sent out last week, at this year’s AGM we will be confirming resolutions for Glenealy School PTA to change its legal status from Limited Company to Association/Society. We will also be voting on a new Constitution for the Association, please click here to review the Constitution.

A brilliant ‘go-to’ resource for helping parents and teachers understand the risks that our children face being online is Internetmatters. It is UK based and is regularly updated to reflect updates and new technologies. A brilliant section is the parental control section which not only covers internet search engines but also major games consoles and online platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. This site complements the second BYO device workshop for PCs and Macbooks on Thursday 4th October 2018.

Quarry Bay School Workshop- URSTRONG

Dear Parents/Carers,

Quarry Bay School is pleased to announce that they will be hosting URSTRONG, an internationally recognized Social Emotional Wellbeing program, on Thursday 25th October.


The aim of URSTRONG is to empower children with the skills, language and self-confidence to be better friends and develop healthier relationships. To learn more about URSTRONG and their programmes please watch this short video which describes the impact of URSTRONG on children and parents around the globe.

URSTRONG will be holding two Language of Friendship workshops on Thursday, 25th October at Quarry Bay School. The workshops have been designed for parents/carers to attend with their children.

-Language of Friendship Jr. (Years 1 and 2 plus parents) from 4.30pm to 6.00pm

-Language of Friendship (Years 3 to 6 plus parents) from 6.30pm to 8.00pm

Year 1 and Year 7 Admissions

Year 1 Central Application period for children born in 2014 commences on 1st September and closes on 30th September 2018. Please click here for Year 1 key dates.


For Year 6 students, the submission of the Year 7 secondary transfer application on Gateway has now closed.

For further details, parents should refer to the information available on the ESF website at http://www.esf.edu.hk/year6-to-year7-key-dates/ for key dates and http://www.esf.edu.hk/esf-zones for school zones.


Please note, ESF reserves the right to redirect students based on majority of transferring cohorts in primary school should there be overcapacity at any of the secondary schools.


Year 7 offer letters will be sent to parents from the respective secondary schools on Friday 30th November 2018 and the Year 7 deposit payment deadline to secure their secondary school place is Friday 14th December 2018.

Important Reminder

Has your child's visa status changed?

As a reminder, all children attending an ESF school need the appropriate and valid visa status to do so. Please inform the school if your child's visa status changes. For more information refer to the Immigration section on the ESF website.
