What did our agency do?

On May 11th 1935 , the REA encouraged the delivery of electricity to rural areas. There goal was to carry electricity to as many farms as possible int eh shortest amount of time. It also allowed the federal government to make low cost loans to non-profit cooperatives.

What did it serve or help/ assist?

REA served to bring a convince to the country and help the farmers.

What were the accomplishments?

They provided electricity for over 220,000 farmers at a cost of $950 per home.

How does it affect us today?

Use of farm lands were taken to put up power lines. Also created long term job opportunities. It also provided a better way to communicate.

  • Only originally 10% of the rural area had electricity
