Great News for Readers!

Inspire is excited to announce that we now offer Accelerated Reader for students in TK-12th grade! The cost for this program is just $20 per student in instructional funds and can be requested through your HST. Please note this program does not include books.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps parents manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child selects a book rather than having one assigned to them and reads it at their own pace. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. They may also read articles of interest right on the screen. When finished, your child will take a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) In addition, when an LP meeting comes up, you can easily print up the list of books that your child read and share it with your HST.

If you are interested in signing up for Accelerated Reader, please let your HST know. They will be happy to assist you.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The State of California requires all public schools to administer the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) to students enrolled in 5th, 7th, and 9th grades. Inspire’s Physical Fitness Testing window is February 4, 2019, through March 21, 2019. We ask that parents bring their students to a test location and stay at the location during testing. Most students are finished in about an hour (test time may be a little more or less depending on the size of the location). For more information, head over here and for locations click here. Please reach out to your HST if you have any questions about your assigned testing location.
Field Trip Booking Tutorial

Want a step by step tutorial for booking your next field trip tickets on Inspiration Station? Watch this tutorial!

Inspiration Station Booking REMINDERS!

Did you know that you can log into your account on Inspiration Station to view ALL of your field trip bookings?? Checking my account is a regular part of my "Field Trip Booking Routine". I check this by selecting My Account from the drop-down in the upper right-hand corner of the Inspiration Station site. Here you will find all of the field trips you have booked. I advise everyone to always double check the field trip you had just booked by checking the amount and names of the tickets purchased. It's a great time to also input the trip date, time, and host contact information into your planner.

Happy Planning!

Utilizing Enrichment Certificates for Service Orders

Please make sure to submit your service orders 2-4 weeks prior to the start of services to allow for sufficient time for your orders to be processed. Once you have your enrichment certificate and give it to your service vendor, that is when you can begin your services.

Every Kid in a Park!

Did you know? There is a federal public lands youth initiative to get all 4th graders and their families to experience the places that are home to our country’s natural treasures, rich history, and vibrant culture.

To help engage and create our next generation of park visitors, supporters and advocates, Federal Land Management agencies, launched the Every Kid in a Park initiative. The immediate goal is to provide an opportunity for each and every 4th-grade student across the country to experience their federal public lands and waters in person throughout the school year.

Every year, beginning September 1, all kids in the fourth grade have access to their own Every Kid in a Park pass at www.everykidinapark.gov. This pass provides free access to national parks across the country.

The Every Kid in a Park pass is good for the 4th grade school year, until August 31, 2019. Information on obtaining the pass is available by visiting www.everykidinapark.gov.

This Week's Curriculum Spotlight: Tinker The Robot!

Have you considered utilizing a mobile workshop to spice up your tired science curriculum? Check out what Kay from Tinker The Robot has to say below! Also, be sure to catch her at the Murrieta vendor event for more information!

Are you and your child always looking for fun and adventure? Does the idea of going on a time-traveling quest intrigue you? Is your eyebrow raised? ;)

Then come by and check out Tinker the Robot at the Murrieta Vendor Fair or follow us on Facebook or send us an email (kay@tinkertherobot.com) or send us a note by carrier pigeon.

Not totally convinced yet? Well, Tinker the Robot was created by two engineers who love tinkering, hacking and dreaming up crazy inventions. Yes, we've built a remote control cookie oven. And now we want to share that love with you and your kids! We’ve created an Adventure in a Box where you and your kids will join Tinker on a journey while building prototypes and learning science and engineering! These kits will help your child make connections between their science experiments and real-world applications.

Teaching Tip of the Week: A list of tips to get you through the week.

As homeschool moms, we are not strangers to the difficulty of the task at hand. Most of the time it feels impossible to accomplish all that one would say is required in a day. So this week we leave you with a list meant to encourage and ignite hope for a glorious homeschool week!

-Start the day with eye contact and a smile. Whatever is going on, those little moments of one on one eye contact with a few words or even just a hug, go a long way to get your days moving in a positive direction.

- Turn on some music! Motivate with upbeat music or help your children focus with some classical music in the background. Music can be an excellent addition to your homeschool day!

- Take breaks! Go on walks, cook together, go for a drive or have a dance break!

-Take some time together as a family to plan out some of the things you want to do in your school year. Let the kids contribute their thoughts and ideas.

- If something isn't working, stop. Don't keep trying to force a system that doesn't work for your family. Don't be afraid to try a new curriculum or approach. All of it is a success if you are consistently pursuing rich education with your children. All of the successes and seemingly failures are a part of the beautiful story you are weaving together.

- Consider a simple co-op with friends. Each parent picks a topic they would like to teach. It can be something as simple as just reading books to the kids about what you are interested in. The more you try the easier it gets, and then you will find your self buried in a sea of amazing educational opportunities!

- If all else fails and you simply cannot think of getting involved in one more thing, then just surround yourself with books. If you spent your days cooking, cleaning, snuggling your kids and reading to them about every topic under the sun they will be filled up well and turn out just fine. ❤

Hopefully, this simple list has left you encouraged and motivated to keep going. If not, reach out! We can help give you ideas to re-ignite the flame inside you for homeschooling!

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!
