Google Maps - Smarty Pins

Google Maps Smarty Pins is a trivia game that is sure to become a class favorite for students and teachers alike. Smarty Pins is an online trivia game based on Google Maps where players answer location-based questions by dropping pins on a map. Players begin with a bank of 1,000 “miles” (or points) and try to see how many questions they can answer before they run out. If you get the answer right, you keep all of your miles. If you “miss”, the miles are subtracted from your total. Miles are deducted from the player’s bank for the distance from their pin to the correct answer. Bonus miles can be earned by answering quickly. Use this as a Bell Ringer to capture student attention, create a bracket for a class competition as they research, or just play it during your planning time. HA! HA! Wouldn't this be a great way to teach your students how to search for an answer online? This online game will challenge your students with questions and require a sense of direction as they drop the pin...but the competition... will make student engagement soar! This is a great way to help your students learn geography, history, and search skills. You are definitely going to want to check this out! (Warning: It can become addictive)
