Procedures for Damaged iPads
If one of the 1:X iPads is damaged please follow the following steps to have it repaired:
1st - Submit a work ticket in Eduphoria and then print a copy of it out.
2nd - Remove the case from the iPad and tape the work ticket to the iPad.
3rd – If there has been a passcode – please remove it.
4th – Make sure there is a little bit of battery life still left.
5th - Bring the iPad to the workroom in the library. There is a wooden bin on the counter with a label "DFW Repair". Please place the iPad in the bin. There should be a 3-5 day turn around on it. (Or at least that is what I am told). *Please sign your name on the yellow legal pad in the bin so that we can keep track of your materials for you.
If you have a shared iPad (one bought with our school funds) and something has happened to it, send me or our wonderful tech "superman", Frank, an email and we will help you with that.
*Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Free Images and Clip Art
Discovery Education - http://www.discoveryeducation.com/ - with this powerful database students can look up images, clip art, audio, etc. to use in their work. This database also offers lesson plan ideas and activities for teachers on a myriad of topics. You can even type in ocean, for example, and click on sound effect for media type and put those waves on a loop for some calming background noise in your classroom. The possibilities with this site are endless! Reminder - Username: lisdpta Password: ptalisd
Pics 4 Learning - http://pics.tech4learning.com/ - This is also one of my very favorite sites for free and "copyright friendly" images.
Free Digital Photos - http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/ - This photo collection contains a plethora of images that are free for educational use. The winter photo below is from this website.
*Copyright Tip
You are free to use any work in the public domain. That means anything created before 1923 and materials produced before 1977 without a copyright notice.

If you love a good book, then you will want to check out The Linen Queen by Patricia Falvey.
Author Presentation & Book Signing with Patricia Falvey on January 25th:
http://www.dallaswomansforum.org/events/event/literary-department-12514-300-p-m-500-p-m-book-review/Are you into Pop, Latin, Folk and/or Country music? Then you should head on over to the MCL Grand Theater (just a few blocks over) and see Tish Hinojosa on January 18th and enjoy her show. http://www.mclgrand.com/events/texas-tunes-concert-with-tish-hinojosa/
If you enjoy attending art shows then this one is an unusually interesting one. It is called Let Me Be Your Favorite Nightmare. Artist Donjuan's work relates to the idea of illegal aliens: he interprets these childhood memories in paintings, creating masked figures, hybrid animal people, pyramids and blob creatures. His show continues through January 18th: http://glasstire.com/venues/kirk-hopper-fine-art/
This exhibit at the Dallas Holocaust Museum runs through February 28th and the story totally fascinates me. It is about an underground railroad that saved 10,000 Jewish children and was called Kindertransport. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/metro/20140101-dallas-holocaust-museum-kindertransport-exhibit-to-open.ece
Finally, I have to share one of my favorite new websites for kids. It is called Youngzine. It is an online magazine for children that is chock full of current events. There are articles about the arctic winter affecting the US right now, Malala, Olivia Wise (the 16 year old who just passed away in November from a brain tumor after becoming a hit on Youtube and inspiring so many with her cover of Katy Perry's Roar), to a touching article about Nelson Mandela's life. http://www.youngzine.org/
*MacBook Pro Tip - Are you missing the days of Home and End keys that you had available to you with the PC's? I know I was. The solution for Mac users is to press the FN key and the arrow keys. FN and arrow right = End and FN and arrow left = Home. Now I feel so much better knowing this information. Ms. Chaisson shared using the Command key and the arrow keys as home/end keys and that worked on my MacBook Air at home!
Got a Mac Tip? Be sure and let me know!
