We are sincerely grateful for all of the kindness and support through this difficult week. We continue to be extremely proud of all of our students and staff. Please continue to keep the student and his family in your thoughts.

INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES

Conferences - Save the Date

Parent Teacher conferences will be the week of February 13. Teachers will send out sign up links on or before February 1. All teachers will be in person on Wednesday, February 15 from 4:30-8:30pm. Each teacher will have other times throughout the week to meet via zoom.

Dance and Cheer Information

Have a student that is interested in trying out for the PRT Cheer Team or the Blue Diamonds Dance Team? There will be a tryout informational meeting this upcoming Thursday, January 26th in the Auditorium during WAG time. Tryout packets will be given out at the meeting. Students can also pick up a packet from Mrs. Casey in Room 404 if they are unable to attend. Tryout Applications will be due Thursday, February 9th and Tryouts will occur the week of March 6-9th. Boy Basketball Home Games

Our student section has been packed and so much fun! A few reminders - If your student attends a basketball game, they must stay on campus between the end of school and the start of the basketball game at 3:30. Students should report directly to the gym. Students should stay in the stands during the game, watch the game and cheer positively. Please review these expectations with your student.


Below are the boys basketball home games and the spirit days that we will have with each home game. We hope to have a great student section! Please remember students may use their activities pass to attend or pay $1. Students who attend must have their ride here for pick up no later than 5:30pm.



Thursday, February 2 vs. FT - Hero Day

Tuesday, February 7 vs. ST - Career Day

Monday, February 13 vs. IT - Celebrity Day

Thursday, February 23 vs. SFT - College Day


Please remember - spirit day costumes must be school appropriate and follow all school rules except hats are allowed if they go with the spirit day. No flags may be worn, no face coverings or face paint.

Kevin Kufeldt, Addictions Specialist and Director of Adolescent Center for Treatment at the Johnson County Mental Health Center, will present to parents about fentanyl and opioid addiction on Monday, January 30, 2023, in ONW’s auditorium at 7:00 pm. This presentation is open elementary and middle school parents in the ONW attendance. Principals recently heard this presentation and thought it was important to offer to parents. Did You Know…… • Average age of first use of substance in the state of Kansas is 12 years old. • Nationwide: Opioid overdose deaths rose to over 107,000 in 2021 • Johnson County, Ks: 95 Opioid related deaths in 2021 • 91% of those opioid deaths were identified as “accidental” • 4 out of every 10 counterfeit pills contain lethal doses of fentanyl • Fentanyl is laced in other substances such as (prescription opioids, cocaine, ecstasy, Xanax and LSD) • Parental disapproval is the number one reason teens say they don’t use drugs or alcohol.

The PRT yearbook staff needs your help this year collecting pictures during the school year of your students and Balfour Image Share is the best way to do that! You can upload photos directly to our yearbook platform from your smart device!

PHOTO OP: K-State, KU, Chiefs, Sporting KC, Royals and all those other teams …We love supporting our Favorite teams! The Yearbook staff wants to see you AT THOSE GAMES! Tailgating in the parking lot, cheering in the stands, pictures with the mascot send us those pictures of your students supporting their favorite teams! This photo op will go on until February so if your not into football there’s always Basketball… (The Octagon of doom or at Allen Fieldhouse!) Please make sure your student is in the photo!



Please send no more than 5 pictures for any one week. The yearbook advisor and staff retain the right to determine final yearbook content. We cannot guarantee all submitted photos will be used.

Notes from the counseling office

Upcoming Enrollment:

Counselors have met with current 6th and 7th graders regarding course enrollment for next school year.

Enrollment sheets have gone home. Please make sure parents sign and students return the sheet back to school by Friday, February 3rd.

Additional information and enrollment dates can be found on our website at:

ONW counselors will be here Monday, January 30th during 8th grade math courses to discuss enrollment options.

This will be beneficial for all students to hear and learn about, even if attending a different high school.

High school counselors will return on Thursday, February 9th to answer additional questions.

Important Dates:

Current 7th grade students will be attending a district wide Career Pathways Fair at Johnson County Community College on March 1st.

Students will be receiving more information on this in the coming weeks.

They will take a bus and be gone from 7:55am-9:30am. Please reach out to Mrs. Brown arlbrown@olatheschools.org with any questions or concerns.
