Illing Insider
March 23, 2021
Greetings IMS Families,
Illing Middle School is excited to host its first Oratorical Competition. Students from both 7th and 8th grade have been working hard over the last month to write, edit, and practice a speech focused on this year's topic: Black History is American History. Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 24th, our students will participate in the grade-level competitions. Our top performers will then move forward to the finals. The competition is being recorded and will be posted on Illing's website, so you can watch our students shine.
We wish success to all of our speakers tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Iris Gomero

A Message From Our School Counselors:
Dear Students and Families,
On March 16th, the Today show featured a segment on a new report that looks at the impact social media has on teens and young adults during the pandemic. Experts also shared information on teen depression and symptoms or signs of depression that can include: not getting out of bed, grooming or hygiene has declined, room might not be clean, they are crying a lot, isolating themselves, staying out late and their grades might be slipping. Some of these signs can be normal teen behavior but a combination of these signs can be an indication of depression. Experts also shared that students can experience high functioning depression or anxiety, students experiencing this may not show signs but may internalize their depression or anxiety. They shared that it is important for parents to stay part of their children's daily lives. You can check out the full video from the Today show below:
