Daniel Wright Junior High School E-Notice - May 17, 2021
End Of Year Celebrations and Important Information
DW Musical and Color War Activities: On Tuesday, June 1, we want to welcome all of our students to DW for in person activities. This will be the last day of school for our eighth-grade students. The day will include the following activities for ALL students:
Viewing of the DW musical, Road Trip: A Musical Revue
Color War parade to celebrate the end of the DW Color War Competition. The parade will begin at 12:45 p.m. Families are welcome to join as spectators. The parade route will be on school grounds. School campus parking will not be available. Spectators may walk, bike or park at the Greek Orthodox Church at 1207 Riverwoods Road.
Color War Fun Run at 1:45 p.m.: Color War teams will participate in a short “fun run” around the school that will leave students covered in every color! We will be using color packets similar to those used in public color fun runs and Holi festivals.
Students will bring their own lunch and/or they may have a free prepared lunch from Quest.
Students should also bring a refillable water bottle and a towel for outdoor seating.
If students have a t-shirt that is the color of their pod, they should wear it for the parade and fun run. Although the fun run colors are washable and should not stain, students should not wear clothing they wouldn’t want ruined.
Friday June 4 is the last full day of school for sixth- & seventh-grade students: Both grades will enjoy outdoor activities and a lunch provided by the PTO and DW Administration. Seventh-grade students will walk to North Park and sixth-grade students will remain at DW to participate in Spring Fling activities organized by the PTO.
In person busing routes will be in effect as usual. Our district buses can offer transportation for our remote students on June 1 and June 4, however seats are limited due to COVID capacities.
For planning purposes we need all families to complete this form by Thursday, May 20, indicating your attendance at the end of year events, transportation needs and food choices.

Sixth- and Seventh-Graders Regular Bell Schedule on June 2 & 3: Wednesday June 2 and Thursday June 3 will be typical, full school days for our sixth- and seventh-grade students. Classes will be held synchronously for both remote and in-person students following the usual bell schedule.
Graduation Practice Eighth-Graders Only:
All students who will be attending in person graduation on the evening of June 2 will need to attend a practice ceremony on the morning of June 2 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Stevenson High School. District 103 transportation will not be provided and students are responsible for their own transportation.
In-Person Eighth-Grade Celebration for ALL 2021 Graduates: Two weather dependent in-person graduation celebrations are being planned on June 2, 2021!
First Option, Outdoor: 6:30 p.m. Ceremony in the Stevenson Stadium: graduates, staff and up to 4 family members may attend. Tickets are required and they will be mailed to the address provided. Use this form to request up to 4 tickets per family. Graduation Ticket Requests
Inclement Weather Option Two: 6:30 p.m. Ceremony indoors in the Performing Arts Center for graduates and staff only. Parents will view the celebration via live stream.
For both venues, a live stream of the event will be provided and a Stuart Rodgers photographer will take professional photos of our students that can be purchased online after the ceremony.
Celebrating the Class of 2020 June 3 Open House: Yes, the Class of 2020! We realize that last year’s graduating class missed many usual end of year opportunities and we would like to invite students from last year’s graduating class to visit Daniel Wright on June 3 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. The “open house” will be a drop in format and students would be responsible for transportation to the school. Eighth-grade teachers will be outside to greet students and sign last year’s yearbooks. Students can also get a tour of the new spaces at DW. Please help us spread the word by letting your siblings, neighbors and friends know about our Class of 2020 Open House.
Yearbooks Still for Sale: Yearbooks can still be purchased through the school office. Please bring either $25 exact cash or a check made payable to School District 103. There is typically a yearbook signing at the close of the school year.
