Congratulations to those of you who were the highest bidders at our Spring Art Auction! We were able to raise over $600 to be used for teacher's supplies and other programs throughout the year. Thank you for all your support!
The next PTO meeting is May 3rd at 4:30. Please join us! Want to be on the PTO? We will need new officers for next year.
The first ever PTO Carnival will be held on May 5th from 10am-Noon with a rain date of May 12th if needed. Food, Games, Prizes! Bring your kids out for a morning of fun at the Carnival. All money raised will be placed into the PTO account to help with Teacher Appreciation Week!
We want to Thank every single parent who has helped the PTO and the Early Childhood Education Center either by being an officer, donation of money and/or time, and attendance to events. The PTO would not work without you!!!
See you next year!

From the Nurse...
A few reminders for next school year:
- Please pick up any medication or supplies that your student has kept in the nurse's office by the last day of school.
- All medication orders and action plans must be renewed by your child's doctor every school year. If you need any forms for the 2018-2019 school year, they can be accessed through the district website or you can contact your building nurse.
- If your student is heading off to kindergarten, don't forget that all immunizations must be up to date before the first day of school.
Counselor's Corner
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. It is a skill that needs to practiced and modeled. One way to help teach your child about empathy is to bring awareness to a character’s feelings in a book. The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen is a book about a gloomy fish that is cheered up by another fish. How to Heal a Broken Wing by Bob Graham shows how a family helps a bird who is hurt and nurses it back to health. Other books include Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall and The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig. You can help your child further develop this skill by modeling how to feel compassion for others and getting them involved in empathetic acts such as helping an animal who needs help, making soup for a loved one that is sick, donating clothing or goods to an organization, and hugging a sad friend or family member.

Character Connection
Our character word for the month of April is attitude. A positive attitude can help ease the challenges that come with life. You can help your child develop a positive attitude by helping them with their inner dialogue. Help them to use positive self-talk to get through those difficult times. "I can do this!"
Our character word for the month for May is gratitude which is about appreciating what others have done for us and feeling moved to reciprocate. Gratitude can be expressed by writing thank you notes, thanking someone in person, helping someone with a chore, and showing a genuine attitude of gratefulness.
DRESS CODE
Please send your children to school ready to learn and play. ...this means comfortable clothes. They need clothes that can get dirty because they will get dirty. We are also playing outside every chance we get and they need tennis shoes. Flip flops or open toes shoes are not good for running and playing on the playground.
READING CALENDAR
The Nightly Reading Record Sheet is an amazing way to make sure reading is a priority in your house. When your child returns any monthly reading calendar completely filled in, at any time, they will receive a fun book. If they complete 6 calendars in the school year, they will get to pick a book from our “library,” Ms. Kelly will read it to them, and then they get to take it home. The Record sheet can be found and printed here http://www.troy.k12.mo.us/domain/88
