Principal's Message

Dear Sabre Families,

We hope everyone is taking care, staying safe and having an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful Spring, I mean Winter weather!

First off, thank you to our Sabre students for an exceptional first week of online learning. While we are disappointed that we are not together in class, our first week of online learning had excellent data points. For example, attendance records during our first week of online learning mirrored our in-class attendance records which will set the tone until we return.

The importance of structure and routine from the home setting has been followed and, moving forward, the importance of being consistent will undoubtedly increase student success.

To my mind, the strong start is a direct result of the engagement and communication between students, parents, and staff alike. It is a team effort when it comes to student learning!

As a note, should your child be unable to attend online class for any particular reason, please phone the school and we will excuse the absence in Powerschool. Administration and guidance are actively ensuring our students are engaged in their learning and do attendance checks on an ongoing basis.

Speaking about SAL staff, an amazing accomplishment by teacher Kristian Basaraba, who was recently awarded the prestigious Governor General Gold medal for his work exploring colonialism through skateboarding with his Sk8trepreneur students last year.

P/S/T Interviews will be held on December 10 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and will be done virtually or by phone conference. Teaching staff will communicate with you to organize your Meet or phone conference.

We are twelve instructional days away from Christmas break. Let’s continue to work together and build off the strong start of online learning as we head toward Christmas and our last day of classes on December 22.

Should your child need any resource to enhance success or should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Have an awesome week. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Virtual Tutoring

Big Brothers Big Sisters Strathcona is running a new pilot program this year that has been developed to offer children/youth/students support with their academic needs through some mentoring and academic support for the remainder of this school year. As part of this program, BBBS is offering virtual tutoring and academic support to students in grades 4-12.

Alternatively, senior high school students (Grade 11 or 12) can volunteer to support these new programs.

Please note: At Salisbury Composite High School, Mrs. Feledichuk in Guidance facilitates our Tutor List. Students and families are welcome to connect with Mrs. Feledichuk by calling the main office.
