What's Kickin' in Kindergarten

February 1 - 5

Introduction to Part Part Whole

Flipped Lesson (video)

This a great resource that reinforces the concept of "part, part, whole." Check it out! Use the video link above. After viewing, change the garden to have or show a different number of flowers in it. Then, see if your child can figure out the new part, part, whole relationship. There was no practice page sent home for this activity. It is something you can do on any scrap paper. Once it is complete, bring it back to school to earn a pride ticket. Thank you!

OH MY GOODNESS...CHECK OUT THESE ADORABLE VIDEOS!

News Flash... Community Helpers Day was a huge success in Kindergarten! To see the video that was made of your child use the link provided below.

Look for: child's teacher's name - Community Helpers. We are so proud of our little ones! We want to thank Mrs. Booth for her assistance with this special activity. ( FYI: There is one class that still needs to be completed/uploaded on Monday so if you don’t see the class you are looking for, that is why.)

Unit 5 - America and Our Community

In this new unit, America and Our Community, students will expand their understanding of their world from their immediate community to the state of Missouri, America and planet Earth. With support, the children will collect information about community helpers to eventually prepare a research based informative writing piece about their favorite Community Helper and after that, write about a place they would like to visit or have visited in the past.

Students will be guided in learning how to ask questions about fiction and non-fiction text through predictions and "I Wonder" statements. We will begin looking at maps to locate places in their community and some symbols (landmarks) in the United States. Finally, they will begin to identify American symbols, including the flag, and continue to recite "The Pledge of Allegiance."

PHONICS, VOCABULARY, SIGHT WORDS, AND READING STRATEGIES

Phonics...

Students will work on the digraph "sh."

When the letters ‘sh’ are together they make a single sound/sh/ like in the word shell. Students will listen for the {sh} sound in words, practice making the sound and write words that contain these letters/sounds.
