LOOKING for Evidence of AVID Implementation
First Grade Students Use the Calendars to Share Upcoming Events.
First Grade reflects on LEARNING! (Look at these sentences!)
Impressive!
One second grade father comments in his daughter's planner EVERY night!
WOWZERS!
AVID Student's Binder: Compliment Collector in Front
Visual Schedules are in ALL Classrooms! YIPPEE!
AVID Anchor Chart in Second Grade
AVID Organization Anchor Charts (Desk and Backpack)
MOST classrooms have visuals for students as reminders about ORGANIZATION
in desks and backpacks. YIPPEE!
AVID Organization: Backpacks!
Evidence that we are teaching Backpack care.
AVID Data Board: Updated and CHANGES Every Quarter
This Data Board has post it notes outlining quarterly goals and then radar charts showing progress. Evidence that the Plan-Do-Study Act conversations change as the quarterly goals change. This is more than compliance... this is the way it is done! BRAVO!
AVID Data Board: MATH Common Formative Assessments (Pre-tests/Post-tests)
Evidence of using data to CHANGE instruction!
Roe Tip for 2019-2020 Include the content on thse individual student charts instead of just listing Topic 1, Topic 2, and so on. Topic 1: Place Value; Topic 2: Addition and Subtraction. This tells the STORY of the learning so students and families remember the journey of learning topics.
AVID Notetaking Format in Math Journals
- Essential Question at the TOP of the page!
- Three Column Notes of Content from watching the Learning Bridge Video
- Summary Statement at the BOTTOM of the page!
(Gives me goosebumps!)
AVID: Classroom Environment
Evidence that we ENCOURAGE students to dream of their future!
Eagles always SOAR!
AVID Classroom Environment
Hallway displays tell a story of LEARNING!
You have the topic, the evidence of where the students were at the beginning and THEN the actual student work showing the learning.
AVID Costa's Levels of Questioning in Fourth Grade
Evidence of teaching students to think BEYOND Level 1.
AVID Strategy: One Page Notes (SUMMARY Tool)
Evidence of USING AVID Tools in teaching!
Next Steps at English Landing with AVID
Let's MOVE from AVID GOOD to AVID GREAT!
AVID: Posting DAILY I CAN Statements
2018-2019 AVID Elementary Implementaion Plan: I CAN Daily Statements on display in ALL grade level classrooms: Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, and Fifth Grade. This is an area that we have not yet met.
Writing in STUDENT Friendly Terms!
Math: I can Add and Subtract Fractions
Reading: I can SUMMARIZE a nonfiction text.
Planners: GOAL Setting
Quarterly SMART Goals and WEEKLY Reflections
WHY set Quarterly Goals: AN AVID: A research based BEST strategy to build intrinsic motivation is to SET a GOAL, Make a PLAN , WORK, and then most importantly REFLECT on your actions towards meeting this goal or not meeting this goal.
We are not yet systematic in ALL classrooms with implementing this approach.
Roe Tip of the Day:
How are YOU modeling for students through your classroom Quarterly SMART Goal? Do you have a focus of a specific SMART GOal on display in your classroom that you are tracking regularly?
Included on the 2018-2019 AVID Elementary Implementation Chart all grade levels K,1,2,3,4,5 have the expectation to have Quarterly Classroom Smart Goals that are written at the student level and recorded in student planners. This was not consistent in ALL planners that we checked. Many planners have this item blank for third quarter. Let's make it consistent for FOURTH quarter!
