Wimax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. This is a wireless communication standard designed to provide 30-40 megabit-per-second data rates. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL".
What is Wimxax used for?
There are a number of different things that Wimax is used for: Providing portable mobile broadband connectivity across cities and countries through a variety of devices, providing a wireless alternative to cable connection, smart grids and metering, provides a source of internet connectivity as part of a buisness, data, telecommunications and IPTV services.
How does this technology affect you?
Wimax affects yourself as it will provide a quicker and more reliable method of wireless communication and so will be easier for you if you are travelling and are needing an internet connection.
