Wimax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. This is a wireless communication standard designed to provide 30-40 megabit-per-second data rates. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL".

What is Wimxax used for?

There are a number of different things that Wimax is used for: Providing portable mobile broadband connectivity across cities and countries through a variety of devices, providing a wireless alternative to cable connection, smart grids and metering, provides a source of internet connectivity as part of a buisness, data, telecommunications and IPTV services.

Wimax affects yourself as it will provide a quicker and more reliable method of wireless communication and so will be easier for you if you are travelling and are needing an internet connection. It is fast and so will be quicker for you to get a connection which is better than waiting a long time for a connection between various places.
