Presidential Candidate Activity

Bernie Sanders:
The presidential candidate I chose for this assignment was Bernie Sanders. The major issue I decided to choose for this topic was Racial Justice. In my eyes, I think it is important that our country pursue's policies that will help us transform the country into a great nation that have everyone be seen equality, no matter what the color of their skin is. As I researched to be able to answer how I believe Bernie Sanders will help change the law and help this issue, I found that within this issue there are five central types of violence waged against black, brown, and indigenous Americans: physical, political, legal, economic and environmental. The main one I wanted to focus on for this assignment, is legal violence. In the news, I see a lot of instances where people are put in jail for nonviolent crimes, and in a lot of cases the law has punished people of color unfairly. Based on what I've read and researched, I think Bernie Sanders would be able to help us with this issue. Bernie had discussed things such as boosting investment for programs that help people who have gone to jail and help them rebuild their lives with education and jobs, and I think this would be a good thing, mostly for people who were punished unfairly by the law. Bernie has also discussed investigating local government that are using implicit or explicit quotas for arrests or stops, and having police departments investigating all allegations of wrongdoing. I think the last topic Bernie touched is very important, I think our law enforcement needs to focus on finding out if someone actually did something wrong against the law... and if so how they have done wrong. I think these examples of what Bernie Sanders discussed are very key roles in fixing legal violence against people of color and would be a huge step forward in making equality stronger.
