Dawson County Schools Tech Update

Sharing the good news of Instructional Tech in our schools

Instructional Technology Committee News

The Instructional Technology met on September 24, 2015. Rebecca Madsen presented to the committee on how RES is using Youtube for their morning announcements.

Each campus representative shared their faculty's impressions concerning 1 to 1 devices, how they will change the classroom and what the device is needed to do. Among the recommendations are: Be able to access the internet, be durable, be reliable, provide ways for students to create and collaborate.

At the October 9, 2015 meeting, the committee listened to presentations about 1 to 1 devices to consider, specifically the Chromebook and the iPad. Each committee member completed a checklist for each device that reflected 1 to 1 device capabilities required for our students.

Flipped Classroom Resources

October started off with Flipped Learning Day. Flipped Learning, as as defined by www.flippedlearning.org, is : a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter. Typically teachers supply the lesson content prior to the class meeting and then class time is used to explore, create and practice using that content. Our schools have a number of teachers that have started "flipping" their classrooms.
