MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Our first days of school at Ben Franklin were filled with opportunities for students to get to know one another and build their classroom communities.
One of our biggest areas of focus this year as a building is engagement - we are committed to building a positive and supportive school community. To help us achieve this goal, we have adopted the motto “Model the Bobcat Way, every day” where “bobcat” stands for:
B - Be empathetic
O - Own mistakes
B - Be respectful
C - Care for others
A - Accept and celebrate differences
T - Take responsibility
Our motto, "Model the Bobcat Way, every day" embodies the values and aspirations that we hold dear as a community. It serves as a guiding principle, reminding us of the ideals we aim to instill in our students and uphold as an organization.
Here's what the Bobcat Way represents:
Inspiration - The Bobcat Way is designed to inspire every member of our Ben Franklin family, from our students to our staff, to aim high and pursue their dreams with determination and passion.
Unity - It reinforces the sense of togetherness that defines our community. The Bobcat Way reminds us that we are all working towards common goals, and together, we can achieve greatness.
Resilience - In the face of challenges, the Bobcat Way encourages resilience. It teaches us that setbacks are opportunities for growth, and with perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle.
Excellence - We strive for excellence in everything we do, whether it's academics, extracurricular activities, or character development. The Bobcat way serves as a constant reminder to give our best effort in all endeavors.
Inclusivity - The Bobcat Way emphasizes that every individual, regardless of their background or abilities, has a role to play in our community. It promotes inclusivity and celebrates diversity.
Over the coming weeks and months, you will see the Bobcat Way integrated into our daily activities, school events, and communications. We are confident that this motto will strengthen our sense of identity and purpose as a school.

PARENT PICK UP REMINDER
Students who are being picked up by a parent should be entering vehicles on the passenger side (closest to the curb/sidewalk). Please remind your child(ren) not to go around the car to enter on the driver’s side as there is often passing traffic on that side of your vehicle and we want to ensure student safety.
MAP TESTING GRADES 5K-5th
Your son/daughter will be participating in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in math and reading on 9/11/23 - 9/22/23. MAP is an online assessment that Franklin teachers and other professional staff use to determine your child’s achievement levels, academic growth, and other information that can help to improve teaching and learning. The full MAP assessment will be administered again in January and May of this school year so achievement and growth can be monitored over time. Below is the MAP Testing schedule. Please ensure that your students are well rested and have a nutritious breakfast
ATTENTION 4K & KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES
4K & Kindergarten students will be picked up and dropped off with other elementary students at a designated stop. A parent or designee must assume responsibility for the child at the stop when dropped off.
If parents would like to designate a person other than themselves, they can send an email to heidi.engel@franklin.k12.wi.us
In regards to same day notification (this should only be done for emergencies), please call GoRiteway Busing at 414-571-9001 so they can pass along the information to the bus driver.
UPDATE TO CLASSROOM SNACKS
Please remember to pack daily snacks for your students. Snacks allowed in classrooms must follow the District Wellness Policy, meaning that your student may choose to bring in fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, or yogurts unless teacher or nurse discretion warrants further limitations. Specific examples include fresh fruit, applesauce pouches, fruit cups, raisins, carrots, celery, peppers, string cheese, cheese cubes, deli meats, and meat sticks.
New this year: Pretzels, popcorn, and goldfish crackers are also approved snacks. As we have many students with peanut and tree nuts allergies in all buildings, snacks that contain nut products (e.g. peanut butter pretzels) will not be permitted in classrooms. Some safe brands to consider for added snack options include Skinny Pop, Annie's, Snyder's, Smartfood, Pepperidge Farm, and Pretzel Crisps.
MEDICATIONS FOR THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR
If your student will require ANY (over the counter or prescription) medication for the 23-24 school year please fill out the Request to Administer Medication form found on our district website and have it signed by your physician.
All medication can then be dropped off at school in its original container along with this form. Please feel free to drop off medication in the Ben Franklin office.
