How Computers Work!

Find out about CPU's, RAM's and HDD's

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. It is at the core of the computer and performs all of the calculations, operations and tasks that need to be done while using the computer. Intel and AMD are 2 companies that make CPU's and the higher number, the faster it will be.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. This is the part that stores data that is currently in use. This means the more memory you have, the more data and programs you can have open at one time. On a modern computer you will probably have around 1-8 gigabytes of RAM. Memory that loses its data when the power is removed is called volatile memory.

HDD stands for hard disk drive. This is the permanent storage of data and this works by permanently storing binary code onto a metal disk. A modern computer will probably have a hard disk drive that can store between 500MB to 1TB of data. There are 1024 gigabytes in 1 terabyte.
