Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of December 12th
Highlights from last week....
The majority of our friends know their letters, so we no longer will be focusing on one specific letter for the week. There are still some children that are still struggling with their letters and these friends will be working with us and other teachers during small group time to master their letters. This week we really practiced recognizing beginning and ending sounds, rhyming words, writing words using letter sounds, tapping out words. We are so proud of how far our friends have come since September!
In Math, we continue our unit on measurement. We compared length, height and weight this week.
In Science, we continued to learn about owls and their habitat.
We read several versions of the Gingerbread Man. During these read alouds we practiced some of our strategies that we are learning in our retelling unit. We have been comparing the similarity and differences in the books.
A peek at our learning this week....
In Phonics, we will learn the sight words "said" and "are", please practice these words at home. This week we really practiced recognizing beginning and ending sounds, rhyming words, writing words using letter sounds, tapping out words.
In Reader's Workshop, we will learn a strategy of using multiple clues when we come to a tricky word. A strategy that good readers use is to think about what we read. When we sound out the letters in the word and the word we say doesn't make sense or sound right, we will learn that we need to stop and do some reading work. We need to ask ourselves, "Does that make sense?", "Does that sound right?" and "Do the letters match?"
In Math, we will continue our unit on measurement. Our focus this week will be on weight. We will use our balance scales and compare weight by using the words "heavier" and "lighter".
In Science, we will continue to learn about birds and their habitat.
We will continue to read several fun books about the Gingerbread Man. During these read alouds we will be practicing some of our strategies that we are learning in our retelling unit.

Notes from Mrs Chadwick...
Notes from Mrs. Melanson
Notes from Mrs. Potter/Mrs. Walsh
With the cold snowy weather all around us your children will need to have warm winter clothing for outdoor recess. Snow pants, coat, winter boots, hat, and mittens are required in order for your child to play in the snow. Please be sure to label all of these items with your child's name, this will make it easier to find if misplaced. A sweatshirt to keep I class would be great, as children do get chilly.
If you have not signed up for a parent/teacher conference your child's report card will be sent home on Wednesday. For those who have you will get your child's report card at that time.
Just a reminder: if you want your child to purchase gifts from our holiday shop Please send in the envelope that was sent home along with money to spend and details of their budget. Mrs. Potter's class is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13 at 9:00AM
Classroom wish list: Clorox wipes, tissues and zip lock bags, quart, gallon, and sandwich sizes are all super useful. Thanks so much to those who have donated items already, all of your donations are appreciated.

Morris the moose is still in our room. He is a magical moose that goes and speaks to the big guy( Santa). We have filled out naughty and nice slips that Morris brings to him each night. The slips come back with a message on them. Morris is never in the same place. He moves so he can see everyone in the class.
Please label all clothing and boots. Many of the students wear same size and have the same kind of boots. If you need another warm coat please let me know we have plenty of all sizes.
Thank you for those who have brought in books for our book exchange and the extra ones. When you have them wrapped you can send them in. Book orders were ordered on Thursday. We will get them in time for our holiday party.
We could use more Clorox wipes and ziplock bags (Quart size).
Just a reminder that snacks should be provided from home.
Thank you for the continued support.
