Dialogic Reading is a conversation around a text that builds vocabulary, verbal fluency, and comprehension.
Dialogic reading involves an adult and a child having a dialogue around the text they are reading. The conversation includes defining new vocabulary, improving verbal fluency, and developing comprehension skills. The child must have opportunities to choose the text, and initiate some of the conversations. Dialogic reading is interactive rather than the child passively listening. Traditional Dialogic reading involves three levels of questioning - often with multiple readings of the text but not exclusively.
Level 1 - "Wh" questions: These questions include who, what, where type questions and discussion of new vocabulary.
Level 2 - open-ended questions: "What is happening in this part of the story?" These questions encourage the child to share what she or she is thinking and make meaning from the text.
Level 3 - Story Component and Text Concept questions: "Who was the main character and how did he feel? How would you feel if that happened to you?"
Try it out! Having a great discussion about a book with your child can't be done wrong. Have fun!

Spring Book Fair March 5th - 12th!
Student-led Conferences in Murray Park
Title 1 Corner
Title 1 information
The Title 1 Plan has goals that fall under three areas: Student Academic Goals, Parent and Family Engagement Goals, and Staff Development Goals.
One of our Family Engagement Goals is to provide opportunities for parents to work with teachers and staff as partners in their child's education. We have two opportunities coming up in which families can participate. One is the student-led conferences on March 12th. Families will be able to hear about their child's progress - from their child. On our survey last Spring this was many parents' favorite family night of the year. We also will have a meeting later this Spring to share learning data with parents. We will discuss and revise our Title 1 goals as needed. I hope you will be able to join us for both events!
