News from the Nest
Strength. Determination. Knowledge.
Happy Friday!
Dear Families,
Thank you again for participating in our Black History Month district-wide activities! I included below a few of the awesome family trees that were sent in, and our cook books will be making their way home with your students over the next week. We're sending home one cookbook per family; thank you to everyone who submitted a recipe!
You may have seen some news come out recently about Dr. Seuss. He began his career as a political cartoonist, and he created some works with blatant racism and others with racist undertones. His family had an equity review done of his published books recently, and they identified six that perpetuated racist stereotypes. They've requested that publication of these books cease immediately. We appreciate the family's care in rectifying what they can of the work Dr. Seuss did, but we also recognize that there is much work still left to do in our country as a whole.
In an effort to help our young scholars fall in love with a wider range of authors who work to bring a love of learning to children, we will spend the rest of March is Reading Month focused on works that celebrate diversity and inclusion, and we encourage you to share some of these same stories in your home. You may remember that earlier this year, we purchased a collection of diverse literature for every classroom. You can check out the post about this here, if you missed it! I'd love to hear what stories are favorites in your home as well!
Wishing you all a peaceful weekend,
Tia

Laptop Care and Tips
All of our scholars have received devices for virtual learning. Below are a few tips to ensure the technology devices are not accidentally damaged or lost.
- Ensure the case remains on the iPad or Chromebook.
- Ensure food and drinks are not around the technology devices.
- Ensure scholars are stationary when using the iPad or Chromebook.
- Monitor data usage. (Make sure hotspots are turned off and disconnected when not being used for school work.)
- When lessons have concluded for the day, ensure the scholar places the device in the same location each day.
- Ensure the technology devices are plugged into the charger at the end of the day in order for the scholars to have a fully charged device for the next school day.
